  • honey bee flyer looking for help

my son got me a honey bee heli for fathers day and i am looking for tips on flying. i can get it in the air but keeping it in one place seems impossible . any tips?

I had a honeybee at the end of last year before I really dove back into the hobby again after a long break.

unfortunately there is no short way around getting a heli to stay in one place its just practice. its kinda like getting a ballbearing to stay in the middle of a mirror once it starts moving, you have to anticipate and add just enough opposite force to keep it steady.

The other thing with these micro helis is that they are far less stable than larger models so therefore it makes them harder as a starting point. which is unfortunate as this is the market they are being aimed at.

Basically the bigger the heli the larger the blade disc is, and the larger this is the steadier the heli will feel in flight. therefore the easier it is to learn on.

the problem with small or micro helis as they are called is that they tend to be alot more twitchy than their larger brothers which again makes them harder to handle.

In the club I belong to most people starting out seam to have Raptor 30's although it looks like the starting IC machine is becomming a 50, be it raptor or whatever other make.

The other option is electric like the one you have, most people recommend the T-Rex 450 as a more serious machine there is also the T-Rex 600 which is a 50 size machine, electric helis can workout quite expensive with the batteries and charging equipment required also flite times are fairly short.

before starting to fly any of these machines I would advise you to find a local club to join first. Flying an IC machine anywhere but at an authorised location is asking for trouble. flying any model in a pudlic location can cause problems.

Most flyers are friendly people and will give lots and lots of advice. Remember whatever you decide even on a little heli like the honeybee the blades are moving at a fast rate and can cause damage to anything they hit so think safety first.

if your getting into this hobby get yourself a sim ,it will save you pounds trust me i know. i started 18 months ago with a walkera (keep away from them )and had all sorts of problems then i got a zoom same problems gliches flying where it wanted to and basicly dangerous . then i listend to people on this forum and got a sim, did not bother flying for about 3-4 weeks the got myself a trex and boy what a differance, like a rolls royce and it was down to the sim i am not flying 3d but i fly much better for using the sim so if i was starting again it would be a sim first then a rappy or a trex. hope this helps

Have a look over on the heliguy.com forum - loads of useful things on there for your current heli, plenty of good stuff on here also, but heliguy should be able to answer most of your honeybee specifics

When learning you need to make a minimum of 4 flights per session - especially if you are aged like me. The learning is on the 3rd and 4th flights. My flying came on leaps and bounds when I started going to my local (deserted and rural) playing field with 4 trex batteries to fly out. however its pretty hard to learn aerobatics on a micro- I am doing stuff with my raptor now before I try it on the little one. The little ones are never far from the ground and they just like to hit the ground as quick as they can. Its like they feel the gravity more!
