  • First auto wot a rush

Just did my first auto and the knees are still shaking , put her up about 50 60 feet just down wind of me got into the hover thought about it and hit the hold . Amazed it came down a lot slower than I had amagined , almost chickend out at the bottom but held it till the last second . Hard landing but no damage phew delighted. Might try it again tomorrow .

Well done James. It's one of the biggest steps your take in heli flying. I will pass on the advice that someone give me. Now you've done one do a whole gallon of them. Also every landing should be an auto.

    Nice dude

JESUS ill need to get a seat to sit on , knees wont take all the shaking. Thought I had a boom strike but got off with it. Think one a night is plenty for just now . Thing that gets me is at what point do you add pitch at the bottom. Suppose you need to get a feel for them

        Hey Automan,

Unfortually it is a case of just getting the feel of them.

First ones should be a nice steady 55 degree desent with a litte forward airspeed. (ALWAYS INTO WIND). Then as you approch the 10 foot mark start to rasie the nose and apply a little more negitive. This will bleed the forward speed off. If you don't add a little neg at this point it will ballon. When you do this raising the nose action you will hear the blades start to thump. This is your increased head speed which you need for landing. Bring to the hover and land

Sounds easy doesn't. The amount I bounce is still quite a few.

        Good fun trying though

Remember keep doing them, it will pay off

        Cheers

I've never had to do one for real in 5 years of flying, but I've been practising them for a long time now.

          Well done mate.

Well done, ive not had the nerve to do one on purpose yet as I alway mess them up in pheonix. However, I have done one when the engine on my knight died all of a sudden, luckily I was only at about 20-30 feet and I had been in idle up so the blades were really moving.

I shook too for the rest of the morning, well done again.
                All the best
