Introducing myself - GP_Tips

Hello

I am on the same track as alot of people here. After readin alot of stuff on the net for about 4 hours a day for the last week. I have picked up some basics.

I am based in Bradford and will start on the software training and may buy a Walkera or Buzz flyer for some actual flying, would also love to meet will people locally.

Embarassingly I have flown 2 Symas and I thought, I was such a good RC Pilot .

One point I would like to point out, where I have think I have been had, was buying a Sky King 3.5. I tried flying it outside , is it just me or is that Heli completele garbage?

Hi and welcome, I started with a walkera but soon got rid of that to buy a raptor 50!! But a warning, once you buy one you'll soon want another then another!! You'll love it 

Thanks for the love guys, much appreciated. And yes like so many others i am addicted and I dont even have anything except a Syma 107. I read the beginners guide and will keep posted with what I get up to.

Hi, welcome to the money pit. If you've been doing a fair bit of reading online, especially on here, you'll have noticed that certain names keep coming up, while others like Syma, Walkera, Buzz Flier (just re-badged Walkeras) and Sky King don't come up very often.

I guess there's good reason for this as everyone on the forum was at some point in the past in your shoes with more enthusiasm than experience. That means of course that many of us have made mistakes in choosing equipment, often thinking that the apparently less expensive models will 'do the job for me...'.

In fairness we old 'uns see countless new members come, choose the wrong gear, spend an utter fortune trying to make it work reliably before getting totally fed up and chucking the resultant pile of bits on eBay to sell for a fraction of what they paid for it.

So please, do some more reading. Look closely at what gets recommended for a beginner and if it means saving up for a wee bit longer before getting something then go with it. I promise you'll save a fortune.

Have a look at the following stuff, it'll stand you in the best possible stead for climbing an incredibly steep learning curve.

Phoenix RC simulator, EFlite Blade series of helicopters, Align Helicopters (avoid the 250, it's no learner's machine!), Spektrum or Futaba or JR radio equipment.

Hi m8 and welcome to the forum
By software training I presume you mean a simulator. This is a sensible move as long as you get a sim worth having. There are some free sims around, but they are a complete waste of time tbh
The Phoenix sim is the one to go for. Worth every penny when learning
I wouldn't go for any of the Walkera helis myself (Horrible things IMO)
How about an E Flite Blade mSR or 120SR. Much better helis

Your Skyking is a coaxial heli. Trust me coaxials are not made to be flown outside.

I have rang a few shops around Bradford and a certain Blade 400 with a Spektrum DX6i has come to my interest. I have looked into it and its scary how many stories there are of people replacing parts and accident stories, Which made me wonder is it the Heli and equipment or secondly I thought its just the amount of people that are using the heli for practising.

Also am I right in thinking I can plug the DX6i into my pc for the RC Flight Sims?

Some excellent advice there, from a very experienced guy. I can't really add much, apart from maybe being more emphatic than Andy. Walkera, Buzzflyer, etc. - avoid like the plague. Eflite do a whole range of helicopters, from co-axial helicopters that are easy to fly, up to the blade 400, which is capable of giving any beginner a real handful!

Yes the DX6i is a well respected radio and will work well with most sims. Especially Phoenix. Oh did I mention Phoenix by any chance

The Blade 400 is a reasonable choice for a beginner but if you have only ever flown coaxial helis so far I would be inclined to go for the mSR or 120SR I mentioned in my first post before venturing on to the larger cp helis.
