Stupid crash today. Decided to take training gear off for the first time. Heli was flying fine, but I hesitated on one of the take offs, rather than doing a nice clean lift into a hover.

Ironically, the extended tail fin from a Trex 600 that I recently fitted to stop stripping TT gears dug into the wet ground, causing a flip onto its side.

Pretty amazing carnage considering it was about 1 inch off the ground at the time. Boom sheared, main shaft, blades, flybar shaft, feathering shaft, tail shaft... the list goes on.

Looking on the bright side, I have used the opportunity to stock up with plenty of spares for the inevitable future crashes once she is back together.....

Note to self, be more assertive next time.

The 'note to self' trick only works until the next 'note to self' cancels it out.
Turns out that this is the largest 'note to self' pad in the bloody world.

Brave move taking the training gear off.
Do the next flight without it & get back on that horse....

sorry to hear about ur crash mate enjoy rebuilding and get back in the air asap and if ur not confident with ur landings and take offs i suggest u put the training gear back on

That's unfortunate, sorry to hear that! Enjoy the rebuild - it is fascinating watching it all come back together I think! And even better having a successful 'rebuild' maiden!

i think most of us have been there with that one and as you say a lot of damage from such a low hight .now i make sure the tail is clear before i take off good luck with the rebuild.

Look at it this way.

You know what went wrong, and you know what not to do next time. So, at the very least, you learnt something new. Not a complete loss after all. Being a noob myself, I try to find something that I've learnt after every flight. I guess even the pros do the same?

We all do these things, the good thing is you know what you did wrong so your not going to do that again, get it all back together and don't go back and put the training gear on now you have taken that off keep it off.

The only way to make any progress is to push yourself, but and it's a BIG BUT don't try anything until your happy to try it.

Sorry about the crash, but at least you know what it happened. I agree with the others who have suggested keeping the training gear off now.

Thanks. I have been away in Malaysia since the day after the crash, so have ordered loads of spares that should hopefully be waiting for me when I get home on Friday. Plan is that I should be home by 7:30am, see my wife / kids, who go off to school for the day at 8am so guess what I shall be doing for the rest of the day :-)

I've had that crash too where the tail digs in. I know try to fly it on the ground before take off and make sure it is all clear. I did go through a phase of using lots of collective and sometimes it does free the tail. It doesn't always though. Just another check to make. At least you know what caused the crash and thats a big plus. Enjoy the build.
