  • 1st Purchase time - Advice.

Hi guys, I think it's time to progress into flying something "real" after badgering away @ Phoenix for some time (although admittedly I haven't gotten many hours in this new year).
I currently have a Futaba 6exp which serves my slope soaring quite nicely, seeing as the main radio technology is now 2.4ghz my Tx is somewhat redundant. So I'll need a new 'un
What's the best choice? I'm liking the DX7, and the DX8, altho the DX6i is nice. I'm also liking the JR transmitters... Are the JR and Spektrum Tx and Rx's compatible with each other?

Heli's; I'd like something for indoors to start with. The Blade mSR seems the most likeliest copter for me. Yay? Nay? Spares seem readily available. I'm ok on Phoenix with heli's, the mSR seems very tame though. And I managed to get the hang of inverted flight too. Slightly. (looking forward to getting to a T-Rex 250). Satch has seen me fly on Phoenix.

    Lots of comments welcome.

I find the 120 sr is a good little heli to help with progress from sim can be flown indoors for practising hover and outdoors if very mild breezes
IMO the 450 pro is an excellent progression and has helped build my confidence, its also relatively cheap to keep, before I move up to my bigger helis and break them " How much "!!!!
    Good luck

Dx7 and 450 pro you'll be well away.
Or either the blade MSr or the new blade mcp which is out soon.

Either way a 7 channel Tx is better itl save you selling the dx6i and getting the dx7 in the long run.

I recently got myself a DX8 and Flasher 500 (Trex 500 copy). I decided on this due to a larger heli being easier to fly, more stable in the wind etc, and compared to a 450 spares prices are not much more expensive. I think the quality of the flasher is fantastic, it flies very nicely and Andy's support from Phoenixtech has been 1st class. No regrets whatsoever.

As the tail uses a torque tube design, I replaced the stock tail fin item with a longer version from a Trex 600 to help project the gears from my newb landing style.

So far, I've had 8 packs through it with no breakages!

          Thanks guys.
I've had a message regarding possible purchase of a trex 450 sev2 and a 450 pro all setup and test flown. And a Trex 450 pro super combo BNIB... Tough decisions.
I'd like something small for indoors too. MSR, mcp of a 120...

How do you guys make decisions....?????

Trying to find a dx8/dx7 at a good price. 2nd hand possibly to save some pennies.

Personally i would say the dx7 or the 8 both tx are great and for a heli i would also say something like a 550e or a 600n my reasons are u will progress alot and in a short time and i have a heli that u can learn on and go stright into 3d if that what ur into y buy something that will take u longer to learn on and when u eventually get good ur going to want to buy another heli just but one that can do both yes it might be a little expensive to start out with but in the long run u would save. when i started i started out with a sim and then stright to a 600n and 2 weeks later i bought a 700n and i was flying around in less than a month
            Do what u do best

            T rex 600LE beast x radix 600 fbl blades
            T rex 550E beast x align blades
            DX7 and DX8
            Phoenix sim
            And plenty of spare parts

DX7, or f you can afford it now, a DX8.
Indoors, the mSR takes a lot of beating.
Outside, a nice TRex 500 would be better IMHO than a 450.

              Plenty of Phoenix time!!!!

+1 for the DX8 - I just got one and think it is excellent. I changed from Futaba, and much prefer the feel of the DX8. If you buy one of them, a bit pricier than the DX7 - but you wont want or need to change it for some time!
If you can keep your head, when all others around are losing theirs - you have probably not understood the seriousness of the situation!!

I'd go for the dx7(why get the dx8?) and then the 450 pro BNIB, reason being the pro flies very well, lipos are cheap for it and crash cost's wont hurt your pocket as much as a 500 upwards. Skip the msr, the novelty will wear off after a few weeks of having it.

But the mSR will keep you flying when the weather outside is foul, it's fun, cheap to fly and maintain, and you can bind it to your DX8. I'd rather fly the mSR for real than fly a 600 on the sim.

I would say a dx8, it has telemetry module, you will find that handy when you are into this hobby.

And I would suggest get a big heli, big heli are more stable than smaller ones. That will save you some repair money. If you are planning on getting into this hobby even more, go fbl with sk720 or Helicommand h3x, both have self-level. Very good for a beginner.

it can be done as long as u put the time in and i had the sim to pratice on witch i did every day so if i were u i would go for the 600n the 700 is a bit more pricy but alot more stable the 600n would do everthing u want it to do and the price is not that bad and it also is stable in the air dont see the point getting something smaller if u know to ur self ur going to go all the way with the hobby

                            I'm talking electric !

So a 700e is easier to fly, (more forgiving) than a 450

How does the 700e compare to a 600e

yes its easier to fly but expensive as in the batteries and its alot more forgiving than a 450 a 700e is in a class of its own
