  • RC Booya Canopy Mount for Trex 550e

Hi - I'm thinking of purchasing the RC Booya quick release canopy mount for my Trex 550e ... 550 Series -

    According to the website ...

Use of this kit requires you to increase the canopy mounting holes on your canopy to 11/32 diameter to install the grommets.

How easy is it to enlarge the canopy holes? Can fibreglass just be sanded with some fine sandpaper? I don't have any specific tools such as a dremmel for this, and don't want to buy any.

    Your advice appreciated.

    Thanks

You could use a round file I guess - but a canopy reamer is made for this exact job
And here's the RC Booya mounts for the Trex 550

You only need to ream the holes out a little, do it a bit at a time see if they fit each time.

They are great mounts.. simply the best IMO and yes, you have to increase the canopy hole, I use a dremmel with the taper cone drill piece, does it a treat and keeps it a proper circle! If you havn't got a dremmel, then like Rob says a file should work fine!

If you don't have any tools just roll up some sandpaper and push through the hole and rotate.

..another tip is to use the 600 rubber canopy mounts. mount them in front of the two el/pitch servos, this will push the canopy away from the servo arms.

OK, thanks for input. Sandpaper (fine, I presume?) around a pencil it is, then, as long as we're sure that will work on fibreglass.

I really can't justify £20 mounts and then a reamer or dremmel - my wife is already beginning to wonder the cost of all the parcels that have been arriving recently.

And I haven't even got the lipos, charger or powersupply yet!

Am I allowed to hijack my own thread???

So I'm considering this PS ... Rapid Electronics - Electrical & Power > Power Supplies > Bench PSUs ...

                ... and the 1,000W iCharger 306B.

Issue is of course the price, but I'm really trying to future proof my purchases so I don't have to keep spending (hence i decided on a FBL 550e with mini vbar blueline express 5.0).

                All thoughts gratefully received.

                  Perfect, just what I needed.

Mounts for the 550 as the standard ones are poop and dont want the stock canopy to go on.

And the reamer to enlarge the holes properly on my Srimok canopy from Fusano

                  Ordered both

Doesnt matter they dont make them for the 450.. If you wanted a set.. you can make them fit.. Make sure you get the T600/700 front ones as they are the shortest ones.. They dont make them for the V90 but I've got a dremel out and made a set fit. I had to trim the mounts down drill a new hole and add a bolt through on the V90

Thanks, Eddie - am aware of the PSU route but I have absolutely zero electrical skills to go down that route, I'm afraid. Am at the edge of my abilities learning soldering!

I've fitted the rc Booya mounts to my 550e and didn't have to alter the holes in the canopy.
Must say it's a lot easier to fit the canopy now and seems very secure.
