The major bonus in a 50 is that it'll do everything a 90 will do at 30 size prices. It's great for learning on as you have a little added stability over the 30 size, plus shed loads more power, which comes in handy when learning and you need to get away from the floor fast 
I learned on a Raptor 30, which was ok, but if I was starting today (knowing what I know now... yeah right) then I would get a 50.
No upgrade needed later on when I want to get into more advanced 3D flying.
There's nothing wrong with 30 size helis, I just think theres a lot of reasons to go for a 50 over a 30 to begin with.
