  • Help my 4G1B is spinning!!

    Hi Guys,

Yeah I know, it's the same old story, flippen newbies and there gyro questions. I'm not really sure what i've done though. I have a 4G1B which i've been flying for a few weeks. I have got to the point where I could hover it without much problem but the gyro was out and the tail was always slowly creeping to the left. This could be fixed by trimming out but every time you changed the battery it would go back to its old tricks.

So, I adjusted the mix and totally messed it up. I looked on the internet and found out that the pots on the reciever are limitless, ie you can turn them more than 360 in any direction. I have found the flats on the pots and put them both facing the motors which I believe is the default position?

I still have the same symptom though. Which is... the heli will hover, and the tail will stay still, then after a 10 seconds it will start to spin out of control in an anit-clockwise direction.

You can hold it for a second on the stick for a second with full left stick, then it goes past what you can balance and it spins.

I'm starting to wonder if this is not the gyro at all, as I can see when the mix seems to be in the middle as before the Heli spins it stays still.

    HELP..!!

I know it's probably not of any help but I had limitless problems with Walkera Helis. In fact I almost quit the hobby before I'd started because of them.

I have a 4#3b ( Buzzflyer BE rebadged ) and a CB100. The BE was a pain in the backside, couldn't get it in the air most of the time even. Then I had to faff about soldering connections as the connectors they use are crap. Spins madly on first throttle up on every battery connection, and is generally not flyable. The CB100 spins on throttle up just the same but is a bit easier. Still not really good quality though.

I had almost given up after spending a fortune on them in parts, mainly due to the tail letting go like you're seeing mid flight.

Anyway I got an MSR for xmas and have been flying that no problems. Luckily I got this which forced me to have another go, as I'd given up because of the Walkeras.

Sorry I'm not much help, but I do sympathise.

Hmmm thats not good, i've got a Walkera HM36 too, and gave up on that for a few years as it was just too hard. I never quit at anything, but I hate spending crazy amounts of money on repairing these Helis.

I'm quite annoyed with myself for messing with the 4G1B because it was flyable and i'd only crash it if I was pushing myself too far. It's unflyable at the moment because of the tail spinning out. I've researched as much as I can on line and can't find anyone with exactly the same problem.

Like I said it takes off and hovers straight, then the tail comes round... and round, and then it just spins and goes down.

I'm starting to feel like, every time something goes wrong it's something new, if you always had the same fault you would learn how to fix it. But i've had a few very light crashes and have already been through two sets of blades a set of legs and a pair of servos... grrr...

i'm a walkera fan. i had a 4G1B for about 6 months and got on ok with it (overall)

i know how you feel...walkera make it easy, it comes out the box totally set up and hovers well, stable etc. then we crash it a few times and fiddle with it...but its never the same again

its a steep learning curve, each problem you encounter will take lots of head scratching, forum posts, parts et etc but the satisfaction when you fix it is great ....then comes another problem

        is it spinning anti-clockwise ?

I have to say my Walkera stuff is going on ebay when I get 5 mins to take photos. I'll never buy one again I don't think. They're just too flakey. I thought my BE spinning anitclockwise madly on first throttle up was down to me crashing it, but then the CB100 did the same thing straight out of the box.

Horizon hobbies need to do a 90deg MSR, and a 120SR sized CP heli and then Walkera will be in trouble.

            Oh dear,
I too made the grave mistake of buying a Walkera HM 4G1 when I started out in this hobby. I soon discovered it was a pile of crap (Sorry but it is) and that trying to perceiver with that heli was a complete waste of time
It now hangs on the wall as a reminder to me to never buy another Walkera as long as I live.
My advise to you is to do the same. Or better still, bin it, forget it and move on to something like a Trex 450 or one from the Eflite Blade range of helis

Sorry to sound so negative about the problems your having, but if you try to carry on with that heli you will only be chasing problem after problem round in circles and throwing good money at a hopeless cause.

Or do both like I'm doing

I'm loving the MSR, not far off the CB100 to fly, but doesn't fall apart every time you look at it, or do something random for no apparent reason.

Oh dear... I don't want to bin it yet... I really won't buy another Walkera though after this one, I need to learn how to fly a little more before moving on though. I want the Next one to stay in one piece as long as possible.

                SCUBA

it is spinning anti-clockwise, it flys straight and then seems to wind it's self up into an anticlockwise spin... ??

This is most probably down to....
                  A) The crap gyro.
                  B) The crap tail motor system.
                  C) The crap battery dropping in voltage and screwing up the already poor gyro even more.

I know its not what you want to hear BUT.....

If your serious about wanting to learn to fly helis, then you would be well advised to spend your time and money on getting a decent transmitter (DX6i / DX7) and most importantly, a copy of the Phoenix RC simulator.

                    Now that's money well spent

If anyones interested, the reason the heli was starting to spin wasn't anything to do with:-

                      A) The crap gyro.
                      B) The crap tail motor system.
                      C) The crap battery dropping in voltage and screwing up the already poor gyro even more.

it was in fact a mechanical fault, the flybar had broken allowing it to flex at higher throttle speeds. This explains why the heli would fly fine at lower head speeds. However as the head speed increased the flybar paddles were deforming causing the heli to spin out of control. You can buy 2mm carbon rod very cheaply from your local model shop.

I hope this helps the people out there flying on a shoestring.

Good news then I'm pleased for you.
Doesn't alter my view point or opinion on the 4G1 though
