  • What was your first heli?

    HHHeeeeeeelo everyone!!

I am the proud owner of a shiny new blue Blade MSR (AKA Blade or Buzz) and I was wondering what your first helis were, if you had named them and what happened to them...did they fly off in to the sunset, do you still fly them, or did you get rid of them because you could no longer get parts? Buzz is my first, and I do not think I could get rid of him...y' know, you always remember your first car, well why not helis?

    Going down memory lane....
Gone out of my mind...back in 10mins

I should not let my mind wander...it is too small and fragile to be let out by itself

Zoom 400.... Also known in the states as a Shogun. Worst heli known to man. Very poor design for the torque tube which was quickly changed to belt drive and bad design for collective and elevator! With the belt drive installed, this limited the elevator movement, its what you would call a no win situation. Taught me loads about setting up and repairing helis (crashed alot ). No longer have it, sold, was costing me a small fortune.
              Thanks, Chris

1st heli was a second hand Kavan Shark (collective version) which I flew on a fixed wing Webra 40 engine, and a fixed wing radio (pre computer radio days and a Y lead for throttle and collective!) Although gyros (mechanical) were available, I couldn't afford one, so I learnt without! Managed to learn to hover (ish) and circuits, before I gave it away to a friend.

Moved on to a Schluter Mini-Boy after that. It was heavy but quite stable. Went on to Kalts after that with a Cyclone followed by Space Barrons. Still have a Mk.1 Cyclone and a couple of Space Barrons
