  • Tools for MSR

    Howdie everyone

I have just been reading another thread about tools, and I was wondering what tools I would need for my Blade MSR (which I love). I have purchased a mini precision screwdriver set from Maplins (which I wanted to fit in my flight case which is a large toolbox), some insulating tape instead of heatshrink, and some tweezers. I am thinking of looking in to a magnifying device (no, not a microscope) to aid with those times when the REALLY small screws and stuff needs to be replaced. I also have several spares, especially blades, tail boom and motor, skids, batteries, hardware sets, etc.

Thanks for your time, but I am very new to all of this, and it does appear daunting to some of us newbies...

You really don't need many. All I've ever changed on my mSR are the blades and the A/R collar. Just a small cross-head screwdriver.

Thank you Coptermanic, but after watching my other half smack my MSR into a wall and then on the floor, I decided on playing safe. I really want to build one from scratch since they are such fun lil helis

        Superglue and thread

For when one of the pins on the flimsy skids snaps off. Bind the thread round the pin and the skid and slap some glue on.

Only repair I have had to do (yet).

Buidling an MSR from parts is going to cost you a fortune, the 5 in 1 board alone is about £50 and you can get a Plug N Play for about £60.

other than that I agree with the Super Glue and thread.

Have one thing that I would add is to keep your screwdrivers with a strong magnet, helps to stop from loosing those pesky small screws.
Pico z * 2 (I know they arent 'proper' helis but they are to blame)
MCX - Got bored after a fairly short time.
MSR * 2 (my current favourite)
          SR -as yet unflown

I found these useful for seeing what's going on with those tiny pieces.

And these for picking them up

And 3 or 4 dioptre strong reading glasses from the chemist. Way stronger than my prescription, to use for magnifying close up.

Thank you everyone. I will get a strong magnet and I think a purchase of a MSR so I can take it apart whilst flying the other is in order...it will be a lot cheaper than purchasing every spare there is as Ewan pointed out the 5-in-1 board is expensive on it's own. And if I do that, I actually have spares and I can put it back together again so I have a better understanding of how it works.
Thanks to Kozmyk for those links I'm going to have a look see
