  • Phoenix Sim issues!

Right, maybe i am going totally mad but humour me please.

I have setup the Sim with the Dx6i on pc, select a CX2 and can fly that no problems, however select a Blade 400, no rotor input until 1/3 of the way up, then main rotor spins up, and the thing just goes vertical and if you try to throttle down it just stops and crashes. Phoenix sim support says that suppose to happen as its how the throttle govenor is set up on real models??????
So am i missing something here or what? I have a migraine from just setting it up in Vista alone lol
If I don't reply, it's probably because I am lost in a Field somewhere!

You can edit the model and remove the govenor - see if that helps.(its in the main rotor section)

Sounds like you've not got the curves set right in the TX.

No mine does not do this, good to see the cx2 is ok. Have you tried re-calibrating the DX6I also is the tx been setup in Heli mode?.

well, taken off the govenor in the settings list and i now have control, well of the throttle that is!!!
Bloody hell how does anyone fly these things. My SR120 i can fly, but the Blade as soon as i get it off the ground it's drifting all over the place even on a calm day setting!!! I can see the road ahead being very very looooooooooooooooooooooong! lol

          Spannaz,

Have you got any Expo set in the SIM or TX? I found it easier to fly without any.

          Cheers

Not as long as you think. It seems impossible at first, but it comes quite quickly and you will wonder why you ever had problems.

The Blade is difficult any way in Phoenix, start with a big nitro like the Avant Aurora, it is much more stable, then work your way 'up' to the Blade 400.

lol, not sure the drink will help.

I'm not 100%, but I think the blade might have Expo set as default? Check the control settings.

Thanks to advice from on this forum I've learned that the heli models are a bit touchy "out of the box" but after dialling in some expo on the cyclic and rudder (25% to 50%), and upping the hover stability of the main rotor settings from 100% to 115%/120% then everything flies pretty well.

BTW I set my Tx (DX7) up in HELI mode (1Servo 90°)
I set my Pitch curves in the Tx but the Expo in the Sim.

In real life I have the cyclic Expo on my Blade 400 at 30% though I think I might up it a bit next time out.

ok, prepare to slate me, but i really have no idea what the heck you meant there. Trust me on this, it's not you it's me, maybe i missed a section that explains cyclic movements (sounds like woman troubles but anyway) and expo and what the pitch curves do.
Now can someone please direct me to the nearest place to learn this lot, maybe then i'd understand what is actually going on!!! maybe i can get a book, i got a migraine turning on the DX6i, now i have finally figured out how to bind it with the SR120 and get the sim to work, i now find myself way outta my depth!
So anyone want to come explain it all in return for beer vouchers ????? lol

Expo 'damps' the response of the controls around centre stick, so if you're a bit heavy handed the heli won't make wild movements in response to your over-control.
Cyclic is the servo controls around the head (forward; back; left; right).
Pitch curve is the settings for pitch of the blades for a given stick position.
Also Dual Rates is a way to have 2 settings for maximum travel on these servos, to limit maximum response to full stick movements and the ratio from mid stick. Switchable on the transmitter.

This is a very basic explanation.

If you're confused over expo and dual rates etc take a look at Finless Bobs videos on helifreak.
