  • Newbie in East Dulwich

Hi All, Been looking around the web for a while now and stumbled across HeliFreaks in the US and now you guys here in the UK.

I've recently built a Trex 450 pro and need somewhere to fly it and set it up. Not sure where around the south east of London i should go. There was some talk in the Ladies forum about Richmond Park, Is that still a go?

It's probably the wrong time of year to go out flying and hell even do what i am doing which is learning, but i decided to get into the hobby so i'll give it a shot.

Is anyone willing to offer some suggestions and perhaps a buddy or two to go down to a flying spot?

    Cheers

    Andy

Hi Andy, welcome to the forum! Check out British Model Flying Association - Clubs for a list of clubs, if there is none there then I'm pretty sure that there is some members in London that will be able to point you in the right direction

    Happy flying

Welcome to the forum Andy, you have without doubt found the best Heli forum!!

Not from your area I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone local will chime in and give you some pointers. Also, the Finless Bob build vids on Helifreaks are worth watching to help with setting up your 450pro if it is your first heli.

All the best, and welcome to the forum, Rob

Over the summer a few of us went over to Richmond park one day and it was a pretty interesting place to fly.

The regulars there tended to be gliders and foamy electric planes mainly. I have no idea what it's like over there in the winter.

I live in SE London and belong to three clubs, Epson Downs (EDMAC), Kempton Park (KPMFC) and Box Hill heli club. Sometimes a couple of us fly 450s over at Clapham Common. There are also people flying at Morden Park and the old Croydon airport.

There is a thread or two on here with a link to a map someone put together with the location of some forum members and clubs / flying sites.

I'm happy to help if I can but generally I don't get out flying too much in cold weather as I find at a certain point I just cannot function and it stops being fun.

              +1 on the welcome Andy
I live in Crystal Palace, so if you need any help, give me me a shout mate.
I don't own any electric models any more so can't fly locally, but there are a few places nearby that I could point you to.

HI Andy and welcome to the nut house, and I agree with the above, about getting a sim:
(Phoenix is one most use, and you can fly with somebody over the internet)
It will save you a lot of money in the long run??
                  Cheers,
                  Richard

I suspect Croydon is the closest offical public flying area since Dulwich is under Southwark local authority and one of the Bishops of Southwark flies here..and let's face it a flying bishop is defo one up on a flying nun (albeit less attractive) and should know about local rules and places one can go.

He's a great guy for a bit of banter although I reckon it's cheating to have all those sky pilots on his side...why he rarely crashes...
