Hi all, i previously posted about what helicopter to go for and it seems the t-rex has won, the only problem is a few member have stated about changing my radio to a spektrum dx7. Now i am noticing i could buy the helicopter but i cant buy both at the moment. But on Aligns website it states that the t-rex 600 needs a 7 channel or more heli radio, why is this when most other heli setups i have seen are 6 channels radios ?

    Many Thanks

    Liam

you only really need a 7 channel radio if your planning on using a govenor remotely from your transmitter.
some govs can be used with a 6 channel radio

Is the governor there just to limit revs on the engine for someone learning? So i can make do with the rd6000 until i get abit more cashflow after the new year.

No, most people use a governer to control the head speed, keep the head spinning fast, then 3d all the way lol, not just for learning mate

It will be worth getting a seven channel transmitter now instead of buying a six channel. That way you don't need to spend out again on a transmitter In the future to get a seven channel. It might mean wauting a bit longer to be able to afford the seven channel but I think it will be worth it.

Checked it up there it only says the fbl trex 600 requires a 7 channel, so a 6 channel should be fine with fly barred model, i assume

The governor will give more consistent rpms/power when doing more complex moves that change the load on the engine rapidly. You will be absolutely fine without one as a beginner (and it's not particularly uncommon for advanced flyers to fly without a governor). Great choice on the TRex 600N and you can upgrade to a 7 channel radio at a later date -no problems there I'd say.

Perhaps I misunderstood your post -sounded like you already had a 6 channel radio -in which case it's fine for now but if you are actually going to go out and buy a radio then I'd agree with Speedy Jon -best to get a 7 channel one if possible.

EDIT: seems that I was posting at the same time as you! YES, a 6 channel radio is fine for now -you just won't be able to use the Align governor but that's no problem when your starting out.

If you play to go nitro than 7 channels is required if you want to use the govenor. However, I have one with govenor and one without.

If you don't use a govenor then you'll have quite a bit more programming to do on your throttle curves but it is possible.

With electric the govenor is built into the speed controller thus the 7th channel is not needed.

Whatever you go for I agree with the above, buy a 7 channel TX now, you will buy one later if you don't do it now.

Yes, I flew my TRex 600N without a governor for at least a year -no problems at all. Good to learn how to program your own throttle curves anyway I reckon and it's not particularly complicated (well at least not compared to the rest of a heli setup anyway!).

Agreed, in fact throttle curves should be correct prior to engaging a governor this way you can always switch off the governor and still fly without issues in head speed. This is how I have always configured my heli's.

I too flew my 600 on 6 channels and, in spite of having a DX7, I still fly both my 600 & 700 without a governor and only use 6 of my DX7's channels.

                            They both work just fine.

You do not need a governor,
