  • Things to Learn

Hi there, im going to KLMs on saturday, to buy myself an MSR, and a DX6i to play with......im a complete novice at heli's, or any other rc model etc....

what i want to know is....

where do i start, what do i learn 1st?

Hover obv - need to be good at stable hover....but can anyone make a bullet point list fo things to learn, and master on mini heli's, before even contemplating anything larger....

    Lesson plans please :-)

1... Take off. (You will need to apply a little right aileron)
2... Tail in hover. (Move heli backwards, forwards, left and right)
3... Side on hover (Both left and right)
4... Nose in hover. (Quite difficult)
5... Simple circuits (In both directions)
6... Combining aileron / Elevator and rudder to achieve banked turns.

That should keep you busy for a bit

      Graham,
when you say "tail in" / "nose in" i assume you mean "the tail facing the pilot" and "the nose facing the pilot" ?

That's exactly what he means, nose in takes a lot of practice

Add Phoenix Sim to your shopping list. You will save yourself £££ in repair costs.

              +1

Try and be as disciplined as possible with flying only try things small at first and progress at ur own pace, defo get a sim if you can this will help ur practice when you get out for real.

The first thing is get a phoenix sim this was the best thing I ever did, if you are planing to fly outside then you need to start with 450 or 500 size machine and I say this from experience, I started with a trex 250 and if it was windy then I was grounded.

Once I got the 500 I came on at a very good rate and now I love flying the 700 it's just fantastic, what ever you do take your time it's not a race you just go out and do your own thing at your own pace.

By the way welcome to this fantastic and some time expensive hobby.

I'm using my phone to reply, sorry can't supply a link, but you'll find it via Google no problem.

It was just what I needed when I started out- a method to follow.
