Glad to see someone from the brca!
I'm considering getting a sim, however I'll need a handset, which is why I'm considering to get a helicopter kit with a handset in which could be used with the Phoenix software.
The other option is to just buy some radio gear, but I'm expecting them to be quite expensive as a good KO system for cars are 200-300 easy.

I think the advice Martin has given is very good.
Don't jump in straight away. Have a good read through the thread already suggested.
This question is asked very frequently as you can imagine.
Also a club is really good advise. Even if you don't join straight away I am sure that the members will be full of good advise.

As others have said take your time to decide what you want, go down to your local club and get and talk to as many members as you can let them know what you would like to do and see what feedback you get.

Get a sim and fly on that as much as possible, yes you are going to have to buy a tranny for it but again see what the club members are using I think the best thing is to go out and buy a heli kit and a set of radio for it, it's one thing buying a full ready to go model but you may not be able to user that radio with other models.

The bottom line is don't rush get information from others and then take the plunge, and be prepared to send some money because once the bug bites you will always need to buy something new.
