  • They blow up??

Ok im just getting in to this sport, bought all the gear (well most of it)
still waiting for loads to come by post so have not been out yet, thought
i'll gleen the infomation and tips from sites like this and youtube etc, and
heres what i found out so far, we spend a small fortune on a bird which is
more or less guaranteed to smash into the ground so we have to replace
most of the parts again a small fortune and if this is not bad enough we buy
Batteries that are likely to blow up! we have to charge them in a firebox in
the garden because they are too dangerous to charge indoors or indeed even
leave them indoors, what have i let myself in for? should be fun.

dont leave fully charged lipos in freezing conditions as it will damage them.

I don't think you can apply much rationale to this hobby! I have spent an extreme (to me anyway) amount of money on collecting helicopters, Lipos and kit (mSR, 2x CX3, Blade 400, 2x 600N, 500ESP, 450 Sport, 250 SE, DX6i and DX7) and I've still only flown a handful of times!

But it is addictive and I never feel any regret when I find myself buying something!

Well like most sports it has dangers, ours suffers from little things like exploding lipos, spinning rotor blades, credit card on standby 24/7. We need insurance at our clubs in case we injure a person/pet etc, we have to take a test to prove we are safe in what we do.

And yet they still call our helicopters toys.

I hope time won't prove me wrong, but my view is that if you treat the LiPos sensibly and use a good charger (eg a Cellpro), they shouldn't be a significant hazard.

Given that LiPos are appearing in mobile phones, etc, I think this is a view shared by some people likely to have a clue...

It costs, but after a high pressure week its the time I can spend at the field where no one talks shop, we all have a good time and normal life, and its problems can just 'sod off' for a couple of hours.
