  • Which beginner nitro?

    Hi,

I have a cp pro 2 electric but i am considering buying a nitro heli.I was just wondering which nitro is good for a beginner?

I have been looking at raptor 30's and raptor 50's.I suppose ultimately i would like one which is relatively cheap to repair as well.
A friend has a hirobo shuttle which looks stable in the air which i have been considering as well.

    Thanks

If it was me, I'd go for a TRex 600LE as long as it fits the budget -it can take you from beginner to 3D pro and is pretty good value with very decent electronics included. Because they are so common it's also very easy to get help and advice (although the Raptor is also a pretty common model).

...unless you destroy the canopy or ruin the torque tube tail drive. Raptor 50 was my first nitro and it has served very well. Lots of 2nd hand bargains out there too.

            T-rex 600 - Cheap to fix...

Raptor Titan - heavy rock solid never diss miss it quickly although parts cost more it has quality in there.

ElyQ - cheap to buy and fix

Outrage 50 - again cheap to fix...

there are a lot of choices in todays helicopter world....

are there any particular models i should avoid?

I just looked at trex 600's and they may be a little out of my price range.

if the t-rex is to pricey i would recomend the raptor 100%. look on e-bay i saw one ready to fly with tx, starte, fuel EVERYTHING. FOR £250.00!!! CHEAP AS CHIPS!!! and to be fair to the trusty old raptors they are smooth flyers even the raptor 30

As a general rule, look for something with a belt driven tail as that will survive much better while you are learning to land.

The Raptor 30 is a good choice as you'll get plenty of flight time with the smaller engine compared to the 50 and it is build to take abuse without needing a lot of maintenance.

Once you get past the basics you can upgrade it to a 50 or just sell it on and move to something larger.

If you really want to start with a 50 then the Raptor Titan SE or one of the earlier variations makes a good choice.

How much are you looking to spend? are you going to buy new or second hand?

I have had a raptor 50 and a 600, I like the 600 better and find the spares cheaper (you get 2 of everything in a pack compared to 1 for the raptor)

You dont have to get a 600LE, a normal 600 will be fine, especially if you are buying second hand with the running gear included.

+1 for a Raptor 50, its what I'm learning on. Easy to fix, easy to fly. Parts may be a little dearer, but not by much. Lots of bargains, I picked mine up RTF for £300 2nd hand.

+1 for the Raptors. I love my Raptor 30, Taught me a lot about Nitro helis. And its a Real confidence giver, very stable and can be setup like a big puppy. I will be selling mine very soon for a very sensible price, as I am moving to a 600n. A few on here have seen it fly, and it is capable of taking you to mild 3d.

Drop me a pm if you want to know any more about it.

Best bet is to wait for a good deal then, as you dont have to worry about the VAT rise.

Raptor 50 is a good choice. Dont know about anyone else, but I slapped my rap50 into the mud so hard on so many occasions without any frame damage - almost indestructible.
