      Newbie question:

Could I turn a 450 kit into a large FP 4 Channel helicopter to learn on??

I have the honey bee cp3, very twitchy little heli, then i progressed onto the king 3, you don't think there is much difference, but the size it makes a big difference to stability and control, i can fly the cp3 indoors, although cautiously, far too twitchy really, but the king really is a nice heli to mess about with plus the gyro helps.

I'm in the middle of building a trex clone, 500 size, i think building one yourself is a good idea, you'll learn allot. I enjoyed building mine and buying the parts i wanted to put on.

Hope this bit of input helps, i'm far from a pro compared to some of these guys, but just reading different threads on here has helped me allot too.

Depends how big your "indoors" is and how good a flyer you are

Good flyer, big, big room, no prob

                I started with a HBFP v1, then a 450 clone, then a Raptor 50 Titan SE, then a Trex 500 and now a Synergy N5.

the 450 move was a very good one IMO, as I must of crashed it 20 odd times, and it was never more than £20 and a couple of hours to repair. It does have the disadvantage of being bashed around by the wind easily but thats the trade off

                  Here's a 100 flown by an idiot (ie me) in a fair-sized room - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf_GAJTMcHs"]YouTube - GAUI EP100 SE Pro 2008-09-06 MVI_6642[/ame]

It's a GAUI EP100 SE Pro (with big flybar weights).

100s, 200s, 250s, etc are dead good *if* you have access to the right kind of room. Not especially cheap, but don't believe people that say little helis like this are too 'twitchy' for beginners. It's not that simple.

One thing I do like about little GAUIs, etc, is that you can fit good electronics (gyro, ESC, etc). ie you're not stuck with E-Sky ^&*(.

This EP100 has a CC ESC running in governor mode, brushless motor, (belt-driven tail), Logictech 2100T. My 200s have Spartan gyros. ie they're small, but high spec.

However, outside with something a bit bigger is probably better...
                  Yes, it's th@ tw@ Scallyb@...

                    Cheers for the help guys!!

I have ordered a 450 kit, if its garbage I've got nothing to loose

This should get me to the rough shape of a helicopter:

HK-450 CCPM 3D Helicopter Barebone kit
                    KDS-3022 R/C Helicopter Pitch Gauge
                    HXT900 HXT900 9g / 1.6kg / .12sec Micro Servo x 3
S610A Main Rotor Blade Assembly Tool (5mm)
                    FG-YBS-325 325mm Fibreglass Main Blade (1pair)

Add the rest when and IF I can complete the above lol

You have no gyro or tail servo listed. Don't buy cheap. All the rest of the gear you have from HK will be fine but buy the gyro and servo secondhand off of the fale sale adds on here or BMFA.
Fly the 450 before thinking about the scale body.
Think seriously before buying that 5 bladed head. You'll need to understand a bit more about the subject before going down that path! You'll also need Flybarless electronics.
Good luck with it and keep us posted.

Yeah I'm buying in stages. Wanted bits I could use on my current helicopter (ie the servos) if the Kit didn't go my way or I changed my mind.

So I'll build that stage, then do research into the next stage etc

The scale helicopter with 5 blades is the ultimate end product, it wont be happening anytime soon (mid next year maybe? lol)

                          Cheers for advice

yup, fundamental change to the heli required with any non-flybar'd head. There's a good article in last months MHW with a guy who has put a 5 blade head and a Hughes scale body on a 450. (Smart Models fuse and DEAO 5 Blade Head). By all accounts, sounds an utter pig to fly
Growing old is mandatory...growing up is optional!

                            Trex 600E
                            Blade MCP-X
                            Various FPV craft - tri's, hexa's etc
                            Dx6i/Chainlink UHF

Anyways I've had a mad idea, Does anyone know where I can get a Schematic diagram of the 450??

Just sent off the order for the rest of the electronics and some spare things like tail holder, blades, screws etc that I have no luck with..

Hope it all arrives soon so I can have a play with it all

All in all I've spent about £80, but this includes lots a spares that I didn't essentially need but decided to use all the shipping weight. Also the vast majority of it will all fit on my Bee if the 450 kit doesn't go to plan.

Anyways I'm quite excited for it all arriving, will look into getting a TX/RX in the new year, as for now building this thing will take all my money/energy lol.
