  • Advice on next heli please...

    Evening all.

Just looking for a bit of advice please on my next heli. I currently have the Blade MCX and love it. But getting a lil bored and need a new challenge.

Im looking at either the Blade Sr or the 120 Sr.

    Any other suggestions? Or opinions.

    Cheers

    Matt

There are loads of helis to choose from, and your probably going to get lots of advice. I have no experience of the Blade SR or the 120 SR, only the Trex 450.

I personally would go for a Trex 450 or clone, or if you can afford it go for bigger. Smaller helis are more likely to be twitchier than the larger ones. All to do with rotor mass.

I am happy with my Trex 450, it has the occasional wagging tail but I am sorting it slowly
    Cheers n beers

Yup, get a Spektrum DX6i tx and the Phoenix simulator. Then you can fly loads of helis right through the winter and be ready for trying a decent cp heli next year

Other than that the SR is no good for flying indoors over the winter (Unless you have a hall to use that is)
The 120 SR is a nice heli but is a fairly large step up from an mCX.
An mSR would be better as its the same size as an mCX but offers a greater challenge as its a single rotor heli

depends on where you going to fly ? msr is like a toy next stage is a totally differant i learnt
on a 30 class at club nice and stable and a 450 v2 at local park which i did my most crashing with cheaper to fix but more twitchy sim is also a good idea gives you the basics

Thank you all for your advice.

Tiddler, its funny you mention the DX6i and Phoenix as i have been playing on my bro in laws today. Awesome!

Think after Phoenix im plumping for buying the sim, DX6i and then a T Rex 600 IC, got on really well with it today and loved flying it.

Might get a mSR for indoors as there is a club 2miles down the road from me.

            Cheers

Well Matt, Having a club that close to you is great Does it have an indoor flying facility? If yes then its probably worth going for the 120 SR.

As for Phoenix, Yup, Good isn't it. It really is worth its weight in gold, and tbh its a total must have when learning to fly helis

Yeah it does, its an indoor only club that do the odd evening flight outdoors. But mainly indoor.

5 miles the other way down the road is Ramsey Model Aero Club which i could fly the bigger stuff

There will definitely be an investment into Phoenix, your right...worth its weight in gold is an understatement! Went through probably £5k worth of T Rex 700's

That's cool m8 wish I had an indoor club near me.

I would def consider the 120 SR then, their a pretty nice heli, just a little too big to fly in your average living room.

The SR is good for flying in a hall but its not that beginner friendly, despite what the promotional material might say.

Spend the winter months between Phoenix and the 120 SR and by the time spring and summer are here you should be well practised and ready to move on to a decent cp heli

Yea its pretty cool having two clubs so close by. I have only just got into heli's, most of the other members up Ramsey have planes !!

But i will take onboard your advice and purchase Phoenix and more than likely the 120 SR.

Also i really like some of the scale stuff on Phoenix, any you would recommend as a project to build for nesy summer?

                    Cheers

Yeah I too like the scale look.
But tbh I wouldn't recommend going scale until you've learnt to fly.
There's one thing you can be reasonably sure of, and that is that your going to crash. No point smashing up an expensive scale body while getting to grips with things.

As for a kit recommendation?? You will do a lot worse than getting a T Rex 450 SE. Parts are cheap and easy to get. Plus they fly really nicely without being too intimidating.

Yeah this motley crew often get together for a fly-in. Both for real at meets or just a get together at their local club/ flying field. And in the Phoenix on line multiplayer Which is fun
