Ok so in peoples opinions what would be a good starters heli? Was thinking perhaps the smaller models as they look sort of easier to handle and less to crash lol or are the bigger models more stable? I've hovered a 700 and that seems fairly controlable but really intimidating to fly but the little ones seem more unstable and twitchier and I'm not sure what would be best to start out with really.

a few more things to think about other than stablity! yes a 700 is uber stable but costs more then say a 450 when you crash it and as a beginner you will crash it !
i say go for a 450 or 500 trex / trex copy what ever floats your boat
but small is cheeper to repair and run in terms of batts also
food for thoughtKel Velocity 50 sk-720 ,Fusion 50 v-bar pro 5.2 ,Velocity 90 v-bar pro 5.2

50 size......bigger than a 450...more stable. More power than a 30 and less to crash than a 90.
Think that covers it

Biggles I totally concur that a 50 size is the correct model to get.
Alot of people don't know if they are going to like the hobby and want something cheap but then fail because the model they choose is too difficult to master.
Let's just wait for the million posts suggesting a 450 is the correct model to get. lol.

Thanks all, I debated the 500 as my partner has 600 and 700's and a lonely 500 and as I'm not allowed to touch the bigger helis I could give the 500 a go but wasn't sure if it would be a bit harder to control, but then again, cheaper to repair which is probably the best thing for a beginner lolFinancier and Supporter...

I learnt to hover on a MFA 500 FP nitro and it only cost (my old man) only a few quid to repair on a newbie topple over. The bigger the heli the better for learning - but modern machines are more expensive to repair if you smash it up good (obviously depends on how careful you are)
I left helis alone for years then picked it up again with a small FP 4 channel heli - spent shed loads on new parts in my attemps to master flying RC Helis again, but still felt that a larger heli was the best way to learn.

hate to say it but a second hand t-rex 600 of any variant is possibly the best route to go, spares are cheap and you get them in pairs.Mike

Are you looking to join our club, only we have a strange initiation ceremony you know

Good to see you wanting to get more involved, just dont get chatting too much with Mrs Kwickkwack or I can see my fleet shrinking by the minute

Well my first successful CP helicopter flying began with the Thunder Tiger Innovator. Up till then it was launch, crash; launch, briefly hover, crash etc....
I think the Innovator is a brilliant first CP helicopter.Edmund

100%
I also feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall because no one ever takes any notice. Which is a real shame, as it means many novices end up missing out on what is probably one of the best beginners 450 sized cp helis around.
