  • Now I've done it!!

I went over to Fast Lad Performance and came away with a T-REX 450 sport combo with Spektrum DX6i and battery. I bought a spare battery, training gear to go with it.

Well chuffed, I was going to buy a blade 400 but having discussed it with the chap there (sorry I forgot your name) I ended up going with the 450.

I was surprised at the size of the box! its tiny, theres more volume in the tranny box hehe.

Now the task of building it.

Oh and I bought a sim lead to connect the DX6i to the PC. This works well with the sim I use - clearview although one of the switches isn't being picked up by the sim - What a difference the TX makes to the toy one I paid £20 for!

Now the real pain starts - onwards and upwards lol
    Cheers n beers
    Ian

Nice one Ian. Take your time with the build and get plenty of practise in on the sim before having a go with the real thing.
Welcome to the world of madness we call heli flying!

Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your take, no wife to argue with.
As for taking my time in the build and getting plenty of time in the sim, the kit is still in its box, unusually after 22 hurs of buying it. I have set the TX up with a model specifically for the sim, which will be tweaked as necessary.

I will go join helifreaks so I can watch the famed finless video's

Must read the manuals now Or should I be a man and do that after the build ?

Oh and don't worry there WILL be questions l

If this is your first build, you may wanna do as I do on all mine - photocopy the manual and "sign off" on every part you fit, including the fact that you've applied the threadlock, CA etc.

I know it's anal but at least you'll know you've done it and there'll be no ""Did I do..." doubts.

Oooooh, another heli victim, errrr sorry enthusiast

Congrats on the Rex 450 kit Ian. Good choice btw Their brilliant helis and I'm sure your gonna love it.
As has been said, be sure to get loads of sim time before you take it for its maiden hover.

Excellent idea and one I will certainly remember when I build my next Heli, Once I learn to fly the one I have.

I looked inside the box this afternoon - I think I am gonna need a magnifying glass for the small screws etc lol.

The idea of signing off each page is quite a good one - similar to real life aviation. Sorry full size aviation!

A proper maintenance schedule would be useful too.

There is nothing anal about safety.

The build looks daunting. It's not the first build I have done, but the first in 15 years, and my first electric heli. I will make a start tomorrow!

I sign off on each individual part, then use a big highlighter to sign off the whole page once complete.

Toyed with developing a maintenance schedule but not got around to it. Each of my helis has its own log book too:

Aviation safety is, BTW, my job. Sounds like you may be involved too?
