  • Managed a 3 minute nose in hover today

I have had a break from flying since Thursday last week due to work and poor weather but finally managed to get some air time tonight. After a couple of batteries tail in I thought I would try nose in and to my complete and utter surprise, blow me over with a feather etc, I managed 3 whole long minutes nose in!

Ok it wasn't a stable hover by any means but it stayed in the same part of the sky, didn't lurch about and more importantly didn't hit the ground. My previous attempts were all about 10 seconds long before I lost control so I am very happy.

          Well done! Marvellous achievement!

Can I suggest, if you haven't already done it, work out and practice an escape route, eg, apply positive pitch and piro the heli to tail in. Do this on the sim so it's second nature, then in the event of problems, you should be able to recover the situation without having to think too hard.

This also applies to any other new move you may be trying.

Nice one Heds! Sounds like your making some progress now. I'll be getting lessons from you very soon.

I'm looking forward to the weekend, hoping to get some time in on the controls again (been out of action since we last spoke - all work no play )

                Keep up the good work!

It's a real buzz when you achieve something like that" won't be long before your taking off nose-in.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

nice one and well done- make sure you keep going back to the other orientations otherwise it can get really emotional when you forget how to hover tail in - I went there lol

Thanks guys. I think this was a fluke and that as I practice I will get worse. The same unfortunately applies to my clay shooting ;-(

I was also able to fly it in circles (both directions) but that was a case of just holding the sticks in one position rather than any skill.

Going to continue taking this slowly and as suggested, practice an escape route when it gets hairy.

I'm thinking of buying an mSR so I can fly indoors now the weather is so, er, crap. I tried the 120 in the lounge last night and while I had enough space to hover, it was a bit hairy.

                              Woohoo

a nose in hover and landing tonight with my mSR!

Not what I would call pretty but it landed on its skids nose in on its box which was sitting on the floor.

What is funny is that sometimes nose in feels as natural as but others times it all goes a bit mental.
