  • Wobbly rotor head (c V2)

Hi, I've just built a CopterX 450 SE V2 from kit and all components apart from the HS-56HB servos, everything is brand new and unused. When I spool it up, it has got a seriously bad wobble around the head. The flybar weights and paddles are EXACTLY the same distance from the flybar cage and at the same angle. Blades are perfectly balanced and are pitched -10 to +10. I don't think its tracking cause on the video, it looks to me like they're both in line.

I have powered through the wobbles a few times and it seemed to steady at about 3/4 stick and hovered really nice. But then came back badly, I touched down quickly and when I powered up it came back!

This is very confusing as I'm sure its not right but it has/ does fly... Any ideas anyone, please...

I know you said it's a new kit, but have you checked the mainshaft? It could have been bent in transit, or been part of a dodgy batch or anything. Take it out, roll it over glass or something - you'll be able to hear and feel if it's bent.

    What's the headspeed at?

i agree the blade grips are too tight thats why it wobbles like that
back em off a tiny amount and spool up it should be much better

          Looking much better

Thanks for the help guys, it is [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I_9UEpQZBc"]much better now[/ame], I checked the old main shaft which seemed okay but I replaced it anyway. I also loosened the blade grips a bunch.

As you can see, it seems to have eliminated the wobble almost entirely! Can't wait to get out and fly it now....

Thanks again for the quick responses guys..

P.S I'm a bit paranoid about the blade screws coming loose and the blades flying off at speed!! Do I need a drop of thread-lock on them?

if you still have some wobble... check the flybar cage. i had this problem on mine and i never saw it - grant85 fixed it for me.
the 450 cage is different size (hard to explain) check it and make sure it's the right way around (one side is longer than the other)
let me know if you need a picture and i'll post a pic with explanation.

Your blade grip bolts / nuts should be the nylock type nuts and should'nt be able to vibrate loose, The nuts should be renewed each time the blades are removed / replaced otherwise they can loose there grip as the nylon grip gets threaded deeper and does'nt perform so well
