Back then with multi mixes being used on a heli then you needed a high end radio. These days with heading hold gyros etc the requirement for inflight mixes from the radio are virtually non existant for most. Although some people still use mixes for phasing issues.
The point I am making is back then a £1000 radio gave you six odd free mixers which you could use!! whilst the less expensive radios gave you three max.
So a DX7 for example at around £285.00 for a combo ish is a excellent buy. If it is good enough for some of the top pilots today around the world i am sure it is good enough for us!
