  • Progressing to idle up advice for a noob

    Hi all,

Although I'm not brilliant, I can now hover not too bad with the occasional panic! But think that I should start practising in idle up mode. I've a Trex 500 with DX6i TX.

What are your thoughts? Should I stick to normal mode until I'm more proficient or move on to idle up mode. What settings should I start with in idle up.

    TIA
    Daz

Stick with norm mode for now & practice working on nose-in once you've mastered that your be ready to start thinking about some 3d stuff then your need idle up.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

I would keep to normal mode for now but perhaps change pitch so your now hovering at 3/4 stick position and keep practicing hovering at that

Yup, stick with normal mode for now, but get used to having 0 pitch at mid stick. Then when you do progress to idle up, things wont feel so different.

Agreed- it feels really strange when you have different pitch curves- well worth getting used to o pitch at mid stick ie make sure your curves/lines for pitch always go through 50 at mid stick.

You could also gradually increase the head speed on the 500.

I already have 0 degree pitch at centre and hover around 3/4 stick.

you don't really need to be in idle up unless your flying around, keep practicing the hovering till your 100% confident with it then start moving the heli around abit lazy 8s etc, then think about idle up when your doing fast forward flight

thats how i learn't anyway one step at a time

sooner you can get into idle up the better really, i hate flying in normal mode, only really happy when gov is engaged and in idle up 1 atleast. my level is basic aerobatics and ff with some flips rolls and loops.
