smart decision?

Hi everybody, I have been sat on the sidelines for a while now, trawling the threads and picking up tips, the forum is extremely helpful. I have played with the 3 channel toy helis for a while, and have a 4 channel that I am getting quite good at and the next step seems to be a sim. Ofcourse I want to by a heli and new cool stuff, but taking the advice of the forum I think I have to spend time with a sim before I choose which bird to buy. So i thought, simple, buy a Tx that I can use when I do get a new heli, and use that with the sim. But then we ask which Tx? I need to keep cost at a minimum, so I am buying second hand.At first I thought Fatuba, the obvious choice, except there are 300 different models and the £50 one are fm. So then I thought DX6, maybe a tenner more but would perhaps want another channel at some point. Then I read somewhere about JR, so I look them up on evilbay and they are cheap, can get 7 channels for £20 to £30 and the sellers reckon they are better quality than the others?? and I find that another £30 buys you a 2.4 ghz module that you just pop in and bingo, your agogo and all up to date. Is it really that easy? and is there a good reason why the JR stuff is cheaper than Futaba? and are these module upgrades any good? I was really hoping to find a Tx and sim for under £100 or so for both, but could maybe only do this with JR.

ok, so I got me a tx. a JR X-378 7 ch. the idea being I can use it with pheonix (just searching out a second hand one) and it will be good enough to use when I get my first proper heli. I also want to get myself a blade msr for through the winter, 2 questions. is it worth paying the £30 for the 2.4 module to replace the 35mhz thats standard, and, could I fly an msr with it? or do I need a spectrum tx or the RTF pack?

hello mate, its peace of mind for me on 2.4ghz, thats what made me go that way, i bought a 35 meg jr, and sold it for a 2.4ghx spektrum.

about the msr, im 99% sure its got to be a spektrum or an eflite tx, as the jr will use a dsss system where as the spektrum uses DSM2

there is a dsm2 module for jr tx's, but yours is not one of them listed

Thanks for that, I just found a place doing the msr, RTF for £99, free UK delivery, bearing in mind they are going for £50 plus on evilbay for 2nd hand BNF that looks like a pretty good deal. I will use my JR for the sim and then hopefully upgrade to the 2.4 module and a proper heli in spring when I can put all the practice I get to the test! Will just have to find somewhere bigger than my lounge to fly the msr!

OK! I ordered my msr!! so quick question, I have read thread after thread on the msr and it seems that if I get any good with it, I could benefit from a better than supplied Tx, that will let me change settings etc etc (lots of stuff I dont yet understand) so to all you msr owners out there, is this something I should worry about? should I be seeking out a dx6i? I dont really want the additional expense, but I also want to get the most from my heli. I am a beginner, I got a (dont laugh!) silverlit z-century to see if I had any sort of control, I can circle it left and right forwards, and circle sideways left and right tail in and tail out, and banked turns forward both ways (wont go backwards proper) dont think there is much more that can be done with it and the msr is my next step, so is the standard gear all I need? Also what spares must I order??

Wouldn't worry to much about spare.I've had over 40 crashes and haven't had to replace a thing.Crash from about 30 feet up into the neighbours wall and it flew fine afterwards.I would buy the dx6i or dx7 though.

will the dx6i or 7 make any difference flying the msr? as at the moment, thats all I would use it for, just dont want to splash another 100 notes without very good reason. some dx5e around for £20 to £30 but I dont think they would be any good, so unless I find a 6 for £40 or less its not something I can get away with just buying (already had the wife in my ear about spending £100 on a 'little toy heli.' 'aw' she said 'I always knew you were sad, but this is a new level!')

I get that from my wife all the time (she doesntt know ive just spent £90 on parts afteer a crash lol I would say the advantage of a dx6i is the use of a throttle curve, and expo, meaning you can calm the msr down or liven it up depending on your experience, the tx that comes with the rtf is a tad toy like

Cheers Kev, Grr still waiting for the MSR to turn up, I have just noticed that my JR propo x378 is the identical twin brother to the DX7, obviously out of the same factory. does anyone know how similar they are inside? maybe you could fit the 2.4 module from a DX5 or one of the other dirt cheap tx and have a 2,4 DSM2 7 ch for less than half the price of a 2nd hand DX7???
anyone know?? I would have a look, but I aint no electricain, and I cant afford to b#gg@r up my tx
