(seems daft not too at the price compared to the others and I only want to do this once)
1 x gy401 but not sure on the servo
    1 x TX/RX ????????????????
    3 x Servo ????????????????

Tail servo Futaba 9560 (proven) or Robbe FS61BB (smaller, looks cool)
      Cyclic servos Hitec HS65MG
      Charger Pro peak Prodigy2
TX/RX For a small electric it's probably best to go for Specktrum DX7 (the kit without the servos)
      Cheers, Lee.

That kit gets my vote, too.

I did it. After a few drinks lastnight I took the plunge and got that T-Rex. It should arrive tomorrow! Now I'm excited! Hope it cuts the mustard!

So where can I get a SIM from? Can they be downloaded? And yes I'll resist the urge to fly the real one till I can hover on the sim. Promise! And no, I won't scrimp on the tail coz I've learned how important that is too.

Good choice - I'm confident you won't be disappointed. Which variant did you get? Any accessories / radio gear etc?

            FMS from here: http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html

            Realflight G3.5 demo from here:
            http://www.realflight.com/free-g3-demo.html

Both can be flown using a keyboard, which works fine for planes, but would be pointless for heli's. £20 FMS USB lead from here: http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/cg...58318#aHT58318.

FMS is freeware, so there is no need for purchases beyond the lead linked to.

Realflight is photo-realistic and is broadly representative of what one gets with all modern simulators, such as reflect, phoenix etc. All of these require purchases. General consensus is that Phoenix is the best - it also happens to be one of the the cheapest.

About Sims, I have FMS it is fine for the basic hover but I couldn't seem to find something which flew like my cp, so i looked, begged borrowed and stole the others to try and make my mind up which one was best for me.

I know that Phoenix seems to be the preferred sims on here and It does look great and is easy to get started with but i felt it was to easy, to gamie.

              Reflect was to easy too.

I ended up punting for Real flight, seems to give a more realistic feel and i would yes if you can fly it on RF then you'll find it easier when it comes to the real thing.

I know thats not everyones opinion and i know RF is more expensive but if you punt for Phoenix or a like and you crash because it has lead you up the garden path, you've just blown the saving you made and more.

Most good shops will be able to show them in action, go and have a play.

WOW!! My heli arrived today! I thought I was excited before, but that was nothing! This is the best thing EVER! It was such a looonnngg day at work waiting to get home and open the box!

Just a glance at everything with my inexperienced eyes and I'm glad I spent a bit more to get a T-Rex. It's the best bit of kit I've ever had. He hee I can't wipe this smile away! I guess you all know the feeling...

It's all in bits in little plastic bags so I get to assemble it all and learn how everything's built and how it works, which is what I wanted too.

Off to find a SIM now and learn to fly while I put this baby together...

Phoenix is going to work fine. There is no need to spend the extra on Real Flight. Phoenix isn't too easy either is pretty close to the real thing, especially on the trex.

They'll always be people that walk out of a car dealership with a Chrysler Neon, just don't be one of them!

I'm afriad i tottally disagree Phoenix is to easy, its like a playstation game, lets put this i prespective my 5 yr old son can fly pretty much any on Phoenix but can't do the training on Real Flight.

Don't get me wrong Phoenix looks stunning and is easy to get going with but i do believe its to easy.

As i said before most good shops will have a copy of each to try, have a go for yourself.

I just think if you get the harder one, being real flight then you are less likely to crash the really thing.

I find Phoenix to be very good, even though it has flaws here and there.
The Knight 50 model on the sim, after a very small amount of fine tuning, flys very closely to my real Sceadu Evo.
It has the best gravity model of any sim I've used - but theres something wrong with Auto-rotations still - well, aerobatic ones anyway...
I personally don't find it "game" like - no more than Reflex was anyway.

I guess it's all subjective as people look for, and take, different things from sims?

As per rombonie's suggestions though - get to a shop where you can try them all (or blag some friends to lend you theirs?) and decide for yourself.
                      Cheers,

I did Realise something about Pheonix after my flight last night.

Don't get me wrong here I think Pheonix is great and im sure my flying has come on leaps and bounds because of it and I will be practising on it as much as I can. However, if I have one critisism its that on my version and maybe its because ive not set it up or something. I do find it a little too easy.

as an example, in the long distant past I have looped and rolled helis, which is about as far in flying as I had previously got, now I went flying last night with the T-Rex 450 and there was a fairly strong wind, now in Pheonix I can do static flips all day long with the heli hardly moving even if I turn the wind up on the sim, however, last night I tried my first ever flips so I didnt expect them to be perfect, but I have to say there was a hell of alot of movment in the heli the flips were very much less than static, the heli probably went backwards and down probably 20-30 feet in each direction.

Having said this lets face it without the pheonix I don't think I would have been standing in the field trying flips last night or any night soon. so although happy I do have to say that IMHO it is a little too easy.
                        All the best

You also need to consider that the Trex450 can be a little sloppy in the head and can easily be setup very well but have some interaction on the swashplate, whereas on the sim, it's quite hard to replicate those intricacies of the real helis.
If you take it for what it is - a great learning tool to train your brain and fingers - it's not a massive step away from translating what you learn on the sim to the real thing on the field.

Thats how I see it anyway

I've haven't tried a SIM yet but I assumed they have limitations. A tool along the way and not much more in the long run, like training undercarriage etc

In reality I'm going to get a certain amount of adrenaline pumping when I'm actually flying the real heli, and I doubt that transfers to a sim on the screen. But I'll find out soon... !

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions it's really helping me lots...

In fairness the sim is a fantastic tool to keep using as you get better flying. For instance I'm just learning my backwards circuits. Pretty soon I'll be doing them for real. I already know that the heli is more likely to "fall out" for real than in the sim but I will have learned the right responses.

The way I look at it is I have two flying abilities - Sim and Real.

On which sim to get: Once again have a look at the majority not the minority.
