  • Vibrating heli!

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out! I'm fairly new to RC helicopters and have recently got my Beam E4 in the air. I've followed all the advice and videos on setting the heli up and in my limited experience it flies perfectly... with one battery pack but when I put my second pack in the heli really shakes / vibrates and does that until the last minute of power from the pack.
The two battery packs I have are a flightpower Evo25 3S 2170mAh 11.1v Lipo and the heli flies perfectly with this. When that runs out and I put in the Overlander 3S 2200mAh 11.1v battery the heli shakes and vibrates like mad. I was wondering if the battery is too powerful or my ESC is wrong. I'm using a Castle Creations Phoenix-80.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

    Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of heli's ,.......
firstly does it sound the same on the second pack ? IE does it seem to have the same headspeed ?
Is it a gentle nod ? or a propper vibration ? and where abouts on the heli is it ? IE is the tail fin vibrating ? or does it seem to be around the rotorhead?

lots of questions i Know but we need more info !!!!!

It sounds like something is out of balance somewhere & this is only showing when the obviously newer or higher C rated pack is used. Is the beam new or used??
Yes the big sigpic is coming back

And if you can post a short Youtube video that will help nail it !!

          Thanks for the replies,

The heli is new and I must have done at least a couple of hours flying now. The heli sounds the same with both packs. It seems to be the main body of the heli that is vibrating. I am still using training gear as I don't quite have the confidence to fly with out it and when using the training gear it is really pronounced. The overlander pack does have a higher continuous discharge rate and I was wondering whether this would show show up a fault that is not apparent on the other pack.

I'm currently charging both packs and will "attempt" to post a video to show the difference!!

Once again thanks so much for the replies!

This video is using the overlander pack. I can only apologise for the quality as it was really difficult to get a good video with the sun as it was. It is not the most prominant of vibrations but you can clearly see the balls on the end of the training gear shaking:

            [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8c-faRtn5ZY"]YouTube - Slight vibrations beam e4[/ame]

This video shows no vibrations. However any comments would be hugely appreciated if it can be observed as to whether or not the beam is hovering properly! Like I say I don't have much to go on other than other videos but I feel asthough the tail is holding fine.

            Cheers!

Hi, Im sure others will comment too, But personally It looked fine to me. The training gear wobble is just a small bit of resonance due to the long thin sticks. And the tail seems fine.

If thats your van and i didnt know better, Id say that was a shameless plug !!!

              How long you been flying?

It sounds like a resonance frequency problem with the traing gear. I had this with a Raptor 30. When you use the second pack it may be that the head speed ups slightly which may start this effect of shaking. 2 ways to tackle this...1 alter your head speed slightly up or down..2 shorten the training sticks by say 20mm. shortening the training sticks worked for me. Is there someone nearby who could test fly without the sticks? edit. looking at the video I woulld say your hovering is competent enough to try without sticks. Just keep the heli level when you land
                hope this helps.

                  Haha Silverlyx,

It's definitely not my van!! In fact he's in my parking space and has restricted my hovering room!!

I understand what you're saying about the resonance and unfortunately the video doesn't really capture it but the shaking / vibrating really is a lot more pronounced between the battery packs.

I bought the heli last year but have only just got the time to get round to flying it, in the mean time there was a lot of phoenix!

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I don't know any body around who can help! I've started out on this all on my own! I might feel brave one day and do it myself but I've put a lot of effort into getting the beam in the air and I'll be gutted WHEN I eventually do crash!!
For altering the head speed how would I do that? Would I change the pinion or fly in stunt mode? Is there any other way?
