  • Digital Servo Noise

My new DS650 arrived today to compliment the new gyro and by god is it noisy!

This normal? Never had a digital servo before so have nothing to compare it to, I don't think any friends servos make as much noise as this does!!

If I tap the tail rod it stops, its as though there is some sort of load on it all the time, it does it regardless of whether there is a servo horn on or not.. There is nothing to bind on as I'm using the QuickUK carbon rod +servo holder

And its there all the time when its moving.

    I'm running a GY520, JR R700 rx with a 4.8v, 1100mah nicad.

I got it running at 1520us in the gyro settings.

If this is normal then I'm glad its nitro so I can't hear it!

Plug it directly into the Rx

Still noisy then check the voltage you may need to add a diode

Still noisy - I think I would send it back.

Sorry just noticed you said 4.8v - forget the diode bit

Align servos are generally pretty noisey.

All tail servos chatter when connected to the gyro. Some just do it more subtly than others.

Mine are noisy, quite off putting when working on the heli, as you think they are binding, fit it to your model, and get things up and running and see how it works.

This is fitted to the model.

Its when there is even the slightest bit of resistance to the servo moving. If I disconnect the tail rod and move the servo its fine, just when its pushing/pulling the tail rod. Same when I connect to the Rx directly, I think its fine to be honest, just maybe need to have a look at how free my tail unit is. Noobie paranoia probably!

            Thanks all

They do tend to make noise, so I would think you are fine.

You would know if it was binding!!

Its definately not binding, meh, I'll get used to it. I'll not hear it when the engine is screaming away!!

digital servos do buzz as they're alwasy trying to maintain the same position it's more noticable when there's a tiny bit of resistance. for what its worth align servos are one of the loudest but they all do it

That was the bit that worried me. The buz is usually due to a small bit of resistance - if you are direct to rx at centre with no load it should be quiet.

I do agree they are noisy anyway

Nah, i had a fiddle, its silent with no load whatsoever. As soon as the slightest bit of load then its an annoying whine, as Glen said.
I was just concerned as in all my years with buggies, I've never heard a servo make a noise like this one!
