  • tail question

Hi,I was just out with the 450 and noticed the tail was drifting.I have the gyro set at 70% and when I was hovering the tail was trying to move left.Does this mean the gyro is set to high?Or have I maybe set the tail servo up wrong.Used the video on heli freaks to set it up,think I did everything correct. Its not a fast left movement it just moves left very slowly and I have to keep correcting the tail.

    The heli is flasher 450

Gyro is the one that came with heli gt400

In case I forget to thank anyone Thanks In advance

Is the Gyro a heading hold Gyro? if so it does not sound like it is in HH, if not then you should move the tail servo to achieve a tail that does not move.(sub trim is cheating) lol, it does not sound like the gain is working make sure all connections are in the correct places. What radio are you using?

TBH, I'd defer to Andy on this. AIUI, it's his gyro...

I'd guess it's a case of radio and gyro not agreeing on what constitues 'zero rudder'. Sub-trim may be a valid way of addressing this.

[Other gyros (eg Spartan) take the initial rudder channel value as 'zero'.]

There are 2 ways around this:

If the gyro allows it, set the heli up to initialise in HH, putting the tail blades at 0 pitch mid shaft, or

Find the "perfect" position for the tail servo on the boom [ with horn at ~90 to rod ] where in RATE mode, the heli does not wander off heading. Just trial and error.

In both instances, make sure you have ZERO main trim and ZERO sub trim.

Don't use subtrim you are just masking a problem. This gyro should hold even on a poor tail setup.

Try a re-bind. Ensure your rudder is centred on the tx during the process.

Took the heli out tonight to try using sub trim as andy said.I tried without sub trim first,Instead of trying to move left it was trying to move the opposite right.I think I'll try setting it up from scratch again see if that cures the prob. Thanks for the replies

Hi again,Think i've sorted the tail but,Ihave another prob. Now instead of just trying to turn one way the tail is wagging from side to side.Had the gyro at 60 and it was a slow wag so kept turning gain up slowly and the wag got faster.Got to about 80% then gave up and thought I'd ask for advice.

Could it be that the servo aint good. Its the servo that came with the flasher and I dont think it is digital.
