  • Fingers or Thunbs ??

    Hi Guys,

I'm fairly new at this and just wanted your opinions / thoughts on whether you fly with fingers or thumbs ?

I personally fly with thumbs, have tried fingers but cannot get on with them.

Don't know whether its because I started flying without a neck strap, or a habit from model car days ?

    Cheers

    Pete

Fingers for me, tried thumbs on the sim and its ok but I prefer fingers as I feel I can fly more finely tuned.

Use whichever method feels most natural to you.

I've tried to learn pinching but it feels totally alien- back to thumbing and crashing!!

The majority of beginners flies thumbs, simply because it's natural and no one told them otherwise.
When you look at more advanced pilots, you'll see more pinch flying.

I recommend strongly to learn to fly pinch (with two fingers, pencil grip). This will require a couple hours of hard work, but it's worth it.

Going back to thumbs is straightforward. But later on, switching from thumbs to pinch is quite difficult.
And, do use a neckstrap. Your hands are busy enough with keeping the heli in the air. It's hard to relax without neckstrap - get too relaxed and you lose the Tx

I started out using thumbs when I first started flying Planes, tried to pinch but did not get on with it, then I bought my first heli and bounced it about the floor getting nowhere using thumbs, so I tried pinch again and I felt I had more control and progressed much faster,
since then I now fly both pinch

I flew thumbs for ages but made the switch to pinch/fingers. I found that I just could not get the degree of accuracy needed for inverted flight and other manouvres. I've grown up with video games since the 70s so thumbs always felt natural when I started flying helis. I went through an assortment of sticks and pinch methods before settling on these sticks. Nice and sharp and you don't need an allen key to adjust length.

Play around with different sticks, stick lengths and gimbal tension. You'll be surprised at the difference it can make.

Went through all of these! May keep one set and put the rest on here.

Hi Pete-Try using a transmitter tray as this will force you to use fingers. I tried thumbs and felt I had poor control but a club friend was using a tray and I tried it the once and have never looked back since buying one. Novice with no crashes so far.
