  • DX6 V DX7 What the difference?

    Hi all

Just starting out and I will need to upgrade to a decent radio. Lots of people using DX7's but what are the main differences between that and the DX6i ?
I will be flying both planes and heli's.

Any help would be grea thanks.

The most obvious is the DX7 has 7 channels against the DX6i's 6 !

If you can afford the extra, get the DX7

So, apart from the extra channel, the DX7 has some obvious advantages - as stock, it has a rechargeable battery pack. The "feel" of the set is better on the DX7. The programming options are better, but different from the DX6i.

Like a lot of people on here, I bought a DX6i first, cos it was cheaper, then upgraded to a DX7 as soon as I could afford it.

Having been using my DX6i for the last week (I have a DX7 too) I can tell you more than anything the quality (on the DX7) feels much better. The sticks move more smoothly and navigating the menus is better, although bizarrely the menu structure on the DX6i is better than the DX7, the scroll wheel thing on the DX6i is terrible to use.

But, as everyone else has stated, if you get a DX6i you WILL end up getting a DX7 or better soon enough.

Although not a real long time ago when I started there was no Spektrum and no 2.4Gig radios. The advice then was to purchase either the Futaba 9C or the JR 9X. And if you couldn't afford it then keep saving until you can was the stock answer.

It is pointless rushing out to buy a cheap radio just so you can buy the model. It will be much better in the long run to save for a few more months so the radio you purchase will last until it breaks instead of you the user getting fed up with its limitations.

If you are getting into planes especially big planes then you may will be looking for more than 6 channels anyway, what with flaps and landing gear and the like. Also does the DX6i do elevons should you decide to get a flying wing or V-tail configurations?

Thanks for all your help on this. I have no doubt that the DX7 is the radio to have but I just wanted to know why so many people prefer it. Just worried that now the DX8 is coming every one will say that I should ditch the DX7 and get the DX8.

                      Many thanks from a newbie

ROFL! I'm sure that the DX8 will have lots of fans once it's generally available, but if you got a DX7, I don't think you'd regret it.

i have a dx6i and wish that I had gone straight for the 7, the quality and feel of the 7 is so much better than the 6, and also it feels smaller in your hands, the 6 just feels that bit to big for me, although these are only opinions, come down to eagle heli club, there are both versions there, as the shops in lincoln are rubbish for heli's, believe me i know!!
