  • Looking to buy CoPilot / Flymentor or similar

    Hi all,

I've decided that to accelerate my learning a co-pilot or similar flight stabilisation unit would be of benefit.

    Can anyone recommend something?

    TIA

tried phoning you last night so as to arrange a bit of help so phone and we can sort something out.you have to at least get the heli under some sort of control regardless of any co-pilot you still need to learn orintation .eckman showed you it hovering hands free how much more stable can you get it.I think all you need is someone there just to give a bit of confidence and point you in the right direction or you could look for a local club they will give you loads of help.

so you learn to fly with a co-pilot on and then you think ok i can fly so you take it off and oh i cant fly cause the co-pilot did it all for me and you crash

It took me just over 2 years to learnt to fly (fig 8s / lazy 8s / fff) and not once did i think of getting a co pilot, just keep on with the sim and it will eventually get better.

Try and get some help / lessons / join a club and you will gain confindence to learn to fly without a co pilot.

I started out with a FMA co-pilot. In my experience they are not a good thing. They come into play when you 'let go' of the sticks. Firstly letting go of the sticks isnt really a good habit to get into and of course the heli is affected by wind speed and direction so the heli is more like controlled out of control if you get my drift . As advised get sim time in. Get out in the real world as much as you can. Practice Practice Practice. you will find it much more rewarding. The odd crash is inevitable I'm afraid as anyone here will tell you. Save the money you would spend on the co-pilot and buy essential spares.

Hello mate.... I think the best kind of co-pilot is the kind with 2 legs, a voice, experience flying heli's and patience to instruct you.

I have had a few people comment on my vid's of the heli hovering - saying it's getting better and coming together nicely. I would feel a bit of a d**k having to own up and say well I have a co-pilot installed and helping me. I think it would hold you back as opposed to accelerate your learning.

Think carefully, you don't want to feel as though you are cheating yourself. Get out and practice, practice and practice.
If you can keep your head, when all others around are losing theirs - you have probably not understood the seriousness of the situation!!

thats why the cpd4 can be adjusted by tx altering the sens of the servos, every time you fly turn the sens down a tad either by tx or on the cpd4 and do so until its all the way off by doing this it will give you more control of the cyclic in stages that you are happy with

I don't want it to replace, simply to avert disaster.

if you struggle to get lessons or dont have enough the copilot can help as long as you keep turning the sens down every flight, if you dont you will not progress i have never had a lesson at all

Neither have I, I just bought a TT Innovator. And yes, I still think its the best beginners cp heli available But then, no one ever listens to me anyway

Mate, just get your self a good sim and radio. Practice the s*it out of that. Go out and hover. Practice on the real thing. Use a training gear if you have to. Then, more practice.

If your trying to run away from a crash, you won't go far - rest assured. Accept it as part of the hobby you may just end up having more fun!

Whatever you do... do it well mate.
                            Whatever you do... have fun!

                            Cheers.

Having seen Al's progression at our field recently from barely being able to get the heli off the ground with the training undercarriage on to 5 flights later cutting it off for him and seeing him hold his raptor in a decent hover it shows what a wee bit of confidence can do for you.

Stick with it without any electronic gadgetry to stabilise the heli and you will feel far more satisfied when you do get that 'click' and hold a hover!
