  • Bang, Crash What a wollop

Well, had my raptor out last night in the garden(i know I shouldn't have but was too tempting), training gear on, had adjusted tracking as 1 blade out, checked everything over & fired her up, great got her hovering, kept practising...

Anyway my eldest decided to video me hovering, took her up about 15ft, felt rock solid, anyway went to try a turn & put a bit too much cyclic in & wollop into the house wall .

So first crash, the blades disintegrated & flybar bent, eveything else seems fine, have ordered a crash pack from Midland with carbon blades.

Will get her stripped tonight & check the main shaft & feathering shaft.

My own stupid mistake, nevermind, time to get properly acquainted with the rappy.

At least I have Phoenix to continue with whilst I rebuild her.

Had to laugh though as the wife asked if the wall was ok

It was one of those things, had it hovering nicely & locked in on the gyro as I had been setting that up as well, had just replaced the blades with some composites as well.

Had my boys watching and got a bit over exuberant & ended up showing them how not to do it.

Anyway just ordered a Mavrikk Deluxe crash kit & that will be with me tomorrow.

Bad luck, could have hurt someone too !
I did a bit in the garden too last year (hovering that is!), not only did the exhaust fumes ruin my grass the dog nearly run up to it barking till I shouted at her !

Was the crash capture on video too? Let us know when you have it ready!

                        yeah, momentry loss of faculties

I had been told off as the fumes ruined our grass (it wasn't great to start with anyway)

The heli went to the side of the house so the actual crash not captured apart from a scream from my eldest and then a thud from it hitting the wall.

Have pics of the aftermath as well

As said before, lesson learned the hard way, but it was great feeling whilst hovering it

Rebuild to commence as soon as parts arrive & hopefully have her flying again although this time will be in a field

                          Hi Dan,

Sorry to hear of your mishap, I guess we all have similar stories to tell, I recently managed to miss my house but I hit a tree instead - ho hum.

Anyway, you have the right attitude towards these little "learning" events - good luck with the re-build, just make sure you double check everything as there may be some hidden damage, so test it all out first - servos, vibration issues etc etc then you ought to be good to try again (away from walls this time fella).

                          Cheers,
                          Simon

                            Ouch.

Wasn't as brave myself last night. I tethered the Concept 30 first with tent pegs to dial the carb setting in and then on a bit of heavy string and just hopped around on the spot until it ran out of fuel!!!!
