How many functions should I get on a transmitter if I want 'the best'?

I want to get some practice on a sim first, but don't know what to buy.

I am planning on helis. But I don't kno0w how many functions and servos (same thing?) to get.

When i say the 'best', I really mean 'very good', something that will have capacity for expansion in later times.

Also, do you have a budget in mind (upper limit?) and wht type of flying do you think you'll be going for?
i.e. are you interested in 3D flying/scale stuff etc.
        Cheers,

The more channels, the better. A good Tx IMO is the Futaba FF9

For 3D flying, you really just need 7 channels (6 standard and an extra one for a governor).

For scale flying, you might want more if you want to fit a scale heli out with retractable undercarriage and lights and, and, and etc

            Cheers,

also it's worth considering the 2.4ghz alternatives as 35mhz may not be best if you plan on running electric

I'm definitly considering electric. Why should the frequency matter, please?

                  35mhz will be obsolete soon...
                  2.4g is taking over.

2.4g is less prone (not at all prone apparently) to glitching in electic helis.

                  Cheers,

If you are looking to purchase very soon then the Spektrum DX-7 is probably your best bet.

Well if you want the 'best' then you would be looking at the jr pcm10 http://www.macgregor.co.uk/radio/contest.htm or the futaba 14mz http://www.ripmax.com/item.asp?itemi...tegory=060-010

Not quite sure this is what you meant by the word 'best' or then again you might.

Biggles, yes, I didn't know what 'best' meant to more learned friends hereabouts, so relying on you to help out.

So a big thanks for the replies chaps.

A jr pcm 9II seems to be a popular mid range radio at the mo....some are saying about the 2.4ghz radios that are appearing...IMO I would try for something that maybe some one at a club has experience with and keep in mind a radio is an investment. I started off with a FF6 (futaba) but within a year I needed more functions etc and bought a JR3810 so in 12 months I spent just over 600 ukp on radios instead of the 400 ukp if I had bought the 3810 in the first place.

I think you can see where I am heading with this.

                          Hope it helps!!!

BTW I still have the 3810 and I am still using it!

the DX-7 can be found at most clubs now......there's a reason it's sold out everywhere and like rocking horse sh*t to find.

Just read my post and what I am saying is try and find a radio that will suit your needs for now and the near future and one that someone has experience with, whether it be 2.4ghz or 35mhz.

I think thats what I am trying to say???
