  • sc32 getting too hot and cuts out

    Hi

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on my problem.

I have a century sport with a sc32 engine. When i first start to fly from cold it seems good and revs ok well when i say ok its good enough for me as i can hover and trying to learn to move it about side on.

The engine has always run hot even though i keep making the mixture richer.

today the engine has seemed to get extremely hot and starting to smoke itself.

I have run about a gallon of fuel through it since new.

does anyone have any ideas PLEASE ?

    Cheers !

Change the bearings. Exactly the same happend to an old engine which i gave to Boggy. Very hot and losing power all the time. Changed the bearings and it then flew like a dream.

Could be a air leak somewhere making it lean out. What fuek are you using?

          Cheers for your help !

          I am using 15% fuel.

I did have one of the screws that holds the carb in place drop out this morning which made it cut out, so with a quick trip to the model shop i got another one and put it in this afternoon. Then first of all it seemed to be ok but then had this mega over heating problem.

          once again Thank you !

So is it the front bearing bleading air into the mixture causing lean runs?

I will stick with my OS for my heli's, never had a problem with one yet. Use alsorts on the planks though...

the std bearings fitted to the sc motors are at best c**p
they even make the align bearings look good

take the bearings out and get some from a local bearing supplier
or try any of the following

Am having exactly the same problem with a SC36 and have done since pretty much day one!

When first started I have lots of power, can hoover, pull outs, basic circuits then after about 2 minutes it all disappears to where she's bogging so much that am hitting the deck and then have to wait for her to settle again.

If I leave the engine ticking over for about a minute I get the power back but disappears just as quick.

doesn't seem to matter what I do with the needles it makes no differance at all, am using Wildcat 20%.

Going to be upgrading to a 600 soon anyway but might check this bearing idea out.

the sc32 i bought to get my nephew's shuttle flying as he was still at school with no income had its bearings replaced under warranty after just two weeks of use
i dropped an mds 38 in the heli to keep him flying
and it ended up with a rebuilt irvine 36 after the sc's bearings went again

anyone got the SKF part numbers for the bearings? Just bought an SC 36 off the bay with only 30 mins bench running time so will do the bearings as a matter of course for a spare engine to have with me in my field box.

I've got Danch's old Concept 30 SR T which came with a rather poorly MDS 38 that only runs (badly!) with the glow battery on even with the carb set to factory settings by the local model shop. Between us we came to the conclusion that it's lacking compression because it simply can't keep the heat in the chamber to run.

Steve @ Steve's models in Ashby commented that MDS stood for More Dead Sticks so I've bought an OS 32 SX-H as my main engine and like I say the SC as a spare...

Hoping to be having my first variable pitch machine'd flight (hover!!!) in the next few days once the engine arrives!!
