  • Progress so far...

Well, almost a gallon into my Model Heli flying career and I'm loving every minute.

I can hover tail in fairly proficiently now, and can do small circuits all tail in.
I'm progressing onto hovering sideways on and its proving tricky I'm finding it easier to hover facing to the right than to the left. Just gotta master these and nose in, then I think i can remove the training wheels!

I don't know why I didn't take this hobby up sooner, so much more rewarding than any buggy I've owned. Everyone who I've come into contact with associated with helis is so helpful, which makes a difference. The guys at my local field have helped endlessly with tail settings and Tx set up, one guy didn't fly at all all day, and just concentrated on getting me to hover for 5 minutes, awesome!

I'm stuck at work for a week so have almost run out of fuel practising, just wish the wind would bugger off for a change, never flown in anything less than a gale

............and the Quick UK anodised stuff looks nice!

    wind

My heli master (Tom Burgess) once offered some words of wisdom and said.

He who fly in wind fly in no wind better.

Only went and had a final tank through it! Got cocky I think, was too low and didn't have time to recover and stuffed it into the deck!! Perversly I've been looking forward to a crash so I can get to know the model a little more intimately! Roll on payday

You're making great progress. Sorry to hear of the crash tho. Get the bits on order and get fixing.

Sorry to hear about the crash, but I have said before that I reckon a crash is a positive thing in terms of getting to know your heli and also dispelling those nerve demons. Enjoy the repair and keep going.

            Cheers

Yeah, oddly was looking forward to the crash, though was gutted when it did happen as I thought I was progressing really well from my initial attempts to hover!!

Hey ho, thats modelling, and all part of the fun of it. Something my wife never understands

Your doing well mate but if your moving about and landing confidently I would take the training undercarriage off. You will find that the heli will fly better without it and you dont want to get too dependant on it

lol its pretty nerve wracking but I helped one of the new members of our club recently and took it off for him after 4 flights and he is improving massively without it! The heli feels a lot more stable without it

As long as your landing confidently then you dont really need it, you end up relying on it too much otherwise

First flight after my crash and I didn't bother with the trainng gear! Whoop Whoop!! its coming along very nicely, if I do say so myself!

Its like a different machine without it too.

Sounds good! It does feel like a different machine.. Del who posted above just sauntered out and took my training gear off the heli - saying to me what he basically said to you! What a difference it made! Good on you!
If you can keep your head, when all others around are losing theirs - you have probably not understood the seriousness of the situation!!

The heli not only looks better, but flies better. Just concentrate more than before on keeping the disc level for landings, and it will soon become second nature.
