  • Training gear recommendations needed

    Hi,

We've just bought a used Trex 500 and are looking for training gear recommendations. I realise they are all based on the same theme but perhaps people could recommend something that fits and works wonders?

    TIA

Cheers for the replies. Maybe a stupid question but are there shock absorber type skids available once I've removed the training kit?

As millerman said, only take training gear off once you can land softly everytime,

I have seen skids with suspension in, a company in the us make them, but they're not cheap, at around £75 plus shipping plus and customs charges

Another vote for the hula hoop, had the training gear with the four legs and ping pong balls and broke it. Got a 24" diameter hula hoop, added acouple of CF cross pieces and held it on over the ends of the skids with elastic bands-no more problems.

That sounds like a good idea but doesn't a training undercarriage give you additional ground clearance as well?

Where in London are you? I have a 600 size set if you want? Mine lifts the heli a little of the ground and is pretty solid - glassfibre rods and big balls.

The hula hoop gives approximately 20-30 mm height advantage in total but I found the view of the whole hoop made it easier to see when parallel with the ground when coming down for a landing. The 'four legs with balls on' does have more spring if landing a bit hard but I damaged it a couple of times and took advice from fellow club members and went for the hoop and it suited me better, swings and roundabouts I guess.

                      regards, John.

Make your own - I made my own and it worked fine.
