  • T-Rex... CDE or HDE

Apologies in advance for all the questions ;-)

I am thinking of upgrading my Twister CP v2 to a T-Rex 450 but can't decide what version to go for. I would prefer to build the kit myself rather than get the new 450S which is ARF (but if you can convince me otherwise...)

I understand (I think) the physical differences between CDE (CCPM) and HDE, but I don't understand why Align bother to make the two different models in the first place.

Are there specific advantages of one over the other ?
Does the control method make a difference to the electronics required (eg different servos, radios etc) ?

Why should I get one, and not the other ?

I was thinking of getting the FF7 radio set to go with the model, but have heard stuff about Spektrum 2.4GHz radios being 'the next big thing'... no crystals, auto channel selection etc. Are they worth a look ?

Again, sorry for the questions... it was all so simple with my Twister - everything was included.

    Cheers,
    Daniel.
Just how many hours stick-twiddling do you have to put in before you can justify buying the Breitling ?

    Hi Daniel

You can use the same servos and receivers for HDE and CCPM. Its the transmitter which controls the mixing of three servos to make CCPM work as opposed to one for pitch on an HDE Heli. (Two if you include throttle on a Nitro Heli).

I have a 450 XL CCPM and have heard that CCPM is more efficient than HDE as three servos work together as opposed to one working on its own to increase pitch, and one to control Aileron etc.

Don't know how true that is but all the 3D guy's use CCPM for a reason and I'm sure will enlighten you and me further.

Finally got my 450 flying nicely so I would suspect the 450s would be a good buy. The spektrum is also supposed to be very good.

    Cheers

      Hi

The 450 S is now available in kit form and is a much better model than the older now out of production XL range.

      Cheers

Actually I have just spotted that ! You can get a kit version of the 450S carbon for well under £200. Not sure about a non carbon kit though.

Just reading up on the Spektrum radios too - very impressive.

I would suggest you get a Spektrum radio. Having flown a mates heli using his DX7, I can only say wow.
The difference really is that good.

I'll have my stuff converted over before the year is out... hopefuly

            Hi Rob,

Do you know if the radio can be connected to a PC for simulator use ?

I would assume this would be included, but you never know...

              Hi

Yes we have the Ali framed 450S kits in stock, you can see them here}http://www.alignuk.com/trex450sal.htm

I just got a prototype of the new Futaba 6EX 2.4G radio to play with and show at Charmouth, looks good and the price is going to be similar to the DX6.
However the Futaba is a full range radio unlike the DX6 so I will be slapping it in my T Rex 600 as well as the 450 SE V2

              Cheers

                Cheers Bob ;-)

I would probably go for broke and get the DX7... do it once, do it right etc.

                      Hi

You might find one if your lucky but try the smaller shops, certainly I would be suprised if any of the bigger shops have any left in stock as they are in short supply at the mo, next batch due mid April is the last I heard.
We are certainly out of them at the mo:-(

                      Cheers

                            Hi Lyndon,

Looks like seeing mine yesterday convinced you about the DX7
Probably be seeing you soon with a Dragonus,Trex or a Mini Titan then ? It'll be good to have someone local to fly with.

Morning Allan,Yes i must say i was very impressed with the dx7,i think ive probably bought the last one in the country i tried a few places and there all out of stock, again ive got to say a big thank you again to Woody for giving out the info on Becra.Still not sure about the helicopter yet,i think it will be a rex mainly due to the fact there is so much information on them and spares are so readily available,i looked at them links you sent me Allan and the price for the dragonus is certainly very good.Got to say a big thank you again for yesterday evening i appreciate being able to come and have a look at the helly and watching you fly it,and for the cup of tea.ive got somebody enquireing about a 50 size ic that might be for sale so hopefully ill be able to get that and ill be able to use that for training before i try and fly an electric model. Thanks again,Lyndon.
