  • Repairing blades?

    Can I ask for advice.

I have slightly damaged a set of SR wood blades, no splits. few'dinks 'dinks', with the plastic heat shrink stripping off at the tip damage.

Can I strip the heat shrink, fill the 'dinks' and sand to the original profile and reuse the blade for practice as I am just learning to fly cp?

What material can replace the original plastic shrink, or will priming and spraying the blades
with car cellulose spray be suitable?

    Thanks in advance.

Not worth it. If the damage is more than aesthetics, bin em.
If you want a new looking set, buy new & put them on. Woodies are a cheep option when first learning to fly.

Also, when they break in a crash, their acting as a fuse & saving somthing else, less obvious from becoming damaged (hopefully).
You can teach a man everything. Apart from experience.

Ay up lad, tha can tell tha's not from up 'ere in Yorkshire.
        Ah was considerin goin upt'moor t'find a couple o' sticks t'replace blades.
        Then rub'em up wi'chip fat t'lubricate 'em.

Now't wasted up ere tha' noes!

The damage is very superficial and I don't like waste, might get a couple of flights (low hovers) out of them.

All the wooden blade I flow, had the plastic roots glued on the wood and just a bit of the heat shrink, so to replace the heat shrink you would have to remove the glued plastic roots, and hence not worth it.

The problem with blades is the consequence of a failure, and hence not worth the expense of replacing them.

I have blended out a minor "dink" in the CF blades on my 450. IMHO, provided the damage is truly superficial and can be blended out to a smooth finish, I say go for it.

              Chris

On the blades for the SR, I have been able to safely remove the plastic stock completely , it is kept in place by a single threaded screw and three locating lugs. Removing them has meant that I have been able to strip off the heat shrink
              and fill the minor dents.

The failure is entirely my inexperience with this new helicopter and part of the steep learning curve.

I can now continue with an effective rebuild and blade balance.

Of course I willcontinue to buy new blades, but waste not want not!

You need to make sure the blades balance if you have changed their weight by filling them - or your heli will shake it's ass off

LOL, I've no problem with erm-recycling, but fly your old blades whiles practicing new stuff & put your sparkly blades on as Sunday best.

I've eaten my fair share of mushey peas & mint sauce. I've also been to Wakefield on a Friday night, so consider myself 'battle scarred' & aware of the 'local northan traditions'.........

Woodies are £8 a throw, stop being a tight fisted northan twat & buy another set.

How bad is the tail wag on your Blade SR? ... or have you managed to cure/stop it?

                          Hi Deano

I have suffered virtually no tail wag since starting to fly my SR.

At present grounded waiting to replace the feathering shaft
                          this weekend.

Are you flying with the tx that came with it? have you made ANY changes since you got it?

I am flying with the tx supplied, and have made no changes.
To be honest this is my first 6 channel heli and suited my needs in terms of price and ability.

It sound as if you are having problems?
