Took me just four days ...

To break something on my Blade mCX.
That'll teach me to get ambitious.

I was practising Circles - Tail In when I dinged the lampshade and lost a ball-end off the top rotor.
"Fine" I thought "There's a spare ball end on the other blade".
I swapped the blades around feeling all pleased with myself for being so clever.

I took off again and it all seemed to be fine BUT two circuits of the room later it falls out of the sky.
    Do living rooms have skies?
The Flight Bar had flown off but mercifully didn't break anything.
I carefully snapped the bits back into place and saw this hole in the top Hub that didn't look like it ought to be there.
    Was there a screw missing?
After much zooming of pics on the E-Flite website I could see that there Should be one there.

And so it begins ... the merry chase of parts ordering.
A pastime that I'm sure I'll be getting used to.

    Well mate,

It is a nice indoor heli indeed mate, but if i may say so... why dont you get yourself an mSR savin up some cash... The latter would actually teach you some good control...

JMO... either ways... happy flying days mate... your in for a long ride!

Yeah an mSR is on the cards I think.
I'll have to sort a new motor out before I can go bigger and fly outdoors somewhere, hopefully find a club nearish.
My old van died a couple of months ago.
But this is only week one and I'm still enjoying the simple pleasures of Co-ax (and the self stabilising hover)

Four days eh? I think you did well to avoid busting something for that long.

        Stick with it...

Just a quick tip, the top hub assembly where the flybar fits onto the MCX is a bit of a weak point, there are a number of ways to re-inforce it but the one I have tried is to put a small amount of heatshrink over the tip once you have refitted the flybar being carefull to make sure that the heatshrink will not cause any obstruction or binding.

I am sure that others may have options, could try searching here and on google.

Go for the MSR when you are bored with the MCX, it is a step change and a good learning tool, go for the Bind And fly version and you can use your MCX TX and then get a DX6i or DX7 later.

Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing a screw in the top of the hub before the crash/es.
As I recall the top was all black, no silver bits.
Not that I was doing a screw count at the time.
            Hmmm, I wonder.
Either way, the web photos show a screw there so I assume there's meant to be one.
I've got some screws on their way now.

I notice there are upgrade InnerShaft w/ Aluminum Main Rotor Hub units available for the mCX by MicroHeli

I reckon that if there had not been a screw in before then the flybar would have become dislodged before 4 days.

Re micro heli, cant speak for the MCX but did try the swash for the MSR and it did not seem to fit right, so binned it.

A reply I got on Helifreaks reckoned the top head upgrade was a good'un but the lower hub not. Maybe that goes for the swash too.

Yer I thought that not bad. On my first flight of my Honey Bee I crashed it

Took me three months to crash my Blade and that was due to me getting the inverted wrong

Koz, You must be something of a natural as I crashed my Honey Bee King 2 loads of times before getting lift off the first time!! Ewan is right about the weakness in the flybar holder on the end of the inner shaft, I fitted a short length of the plastic tube from a cotton bud onto the screw to act as a spacer between the plastic U shape uprights and have never broken an inner shaft since. Just make sure the length is not too short to prevent the flybar moving freely or too long to be ineffective. I think the final length I found in my experiments for the spacer was around 2.0mm.

Hope you get the MCX airborne again soon and keep up the practice ready for your MSR, as they are really quick in a small space!!

                      w00t !!!!

w00t as they say in "l33t speek"
I'm back in the air. Yay!

My pal brought round one of they tiny screws that holds the top hub together so now I can fly again.
A mate of ours also flies helis I've recently discovered. He kindly donated the screw.
I've been green with envy reading about everyone's weekend adventures.

Got offered a deal on a DX6i too but unfortunately it was Mode 1.
                      I'm going to go for a DX7, I've decided.
Start as I mean to go on , kinda thing.

I dunno about "natural" this wasn't my first crash it was the first damage.
