  • Advice on new heli. (youtube vid on page 2)

    Hi all,
i am new to flying and currently have a Twister 3d storm, it is a cool heli, but like alot of movement for a little stick input and i were wondering if there is a better heli that doesn't act like a squirrel thats just stole some nuts and is trying to escape.

    Advice and comments welcome.

For low cost option the blade SR is suppose to be aimed at that level, only problem being is it is more designed for low wind or indoor use like a sports hall.
The only way you are going to get a tammer heli is going up is size, the bigger they are the more stable, that is the general rule

You can try adding some weights onto the flybar to make the cyclic a bit more docile and you can also use dual rates and a bit of expo if you transmitter will allow it.

Have a look at these stickies. They are for the blade 400 but the principles are the same for any heli and if im not mistaken the twister storm and blade 400 are very similar with many parts being interchangeable

I have the DX6i so i'll give the expo and dual rate a try....can i ask what is the difference between (other than one being physical and other being on the radio) adding weight to the flybar and adding expo to the cyclic on the radio?

        Many thanks for your replies.

If you are looking to fly outside then go bigger, but then you open a completely new can of worms because you then have to decide on electric or ic, electric that is going to be a Trex 500 simply the best, ic well that has to be a Trex 600 and as already been said you can tame these both down with expo / rates.

Welcome to the wonderful world of heli flying!!!!

Weights will slow the cyclic down a little, while expo will make the cyclic less sensitive around the centre stick positions only.

It'll also make it more stable in forward flight and in wind.

Expo or other such Tx parameters affect your stick input - eg make it less sensitive - and nothing else.

Flybar weights, headspeed, etc, etc change how the heli itself behaves.

Flybar weights will make your heli less affected by both your inputs, and also other disturbances.

better off getting a blade 400 or trex 250, they do everything, or depending on how much money youve got a 500gf

There are a lot of different views on what size beginner heli works best.

IMO, it will be the one you get to fly most - which is completely dependent on individual circumstances. Eg Where you can fly, and how much you can spend.

Ps yes my kids were a distance away with my bro in law watching them and wife was filming.

PS the crash half way through was due to training gear getting caught in grass Grrrrr.

Looks like you were doing pretty well actually

                            Suggestions would be.....

Try keeping the heli tail in for now. Or at least until you can keep a steadier hover.

Yep thats the one, sponges are due to my training gear being screwed, so i have sponges so there is a bit of rigidity as well as softness.

Thanks, i will try to steady my tail as well as stay tail in, i do usually wait for calm days, but they are few and far between lol.

Problem with kids staying at home is i dont have a camera girl/guy lol, i may look at getting a headcam so i can do both lol.
