I reckon if I did it again I would have gone straight for a better transmitter than the DX6i which is feeling a bit cheap and platicky now- it is fine and does the job, but will not cover me when/if I get a nitro.
The 450 size seemed scary enough when I got it, but is a good size to learn on and will take you a long way. The only limitation is wind. The Trex 500 is a great Heli and will fit in your budget, but would need taming a bit to learn on ( easy on the transmitter). I've had a lot of time on the Innovator and the 500 still seemed a bit intimidating at first. The cost of spares after crashes also goes up significantly compared to a 450 size.
A new Trex 600 will cost you close on £1000 to get up and running. There are some good second hand deals around.
It's your choice, but if you get a 50 size Nitro, do not try to do it on your own- get to a club. A 450 is possible on your own with care. A sim is essential and will really speed up your learning.
