  • Washers with blades

    First post alert, be gentle.

Two weeks ago I walked into Skyline to buy a RC heli book & a simulator. An hour later came out with a Raptor 30, Futaba Tx and a bag full of bits. hey, ho. In at the deep end.

Raptor was pre-owned, so no building to do. Well, there is now as it appears that in Raptor vs my kids' trampoline, the score was Raptor 0, trampoline 1

Anyway....Skyline happily provided me with another bag of bits to repair it. The blades (sorry can't remember brand as they are at work, they are c/f) came with 4x washers. Are these optional spacers or required (above and below) when fitting? It seems that I can just about get one in with a blade in the mount. Two would be forcing it. Zero is also do-able as the bolt would pull it all together.

    Thanks,

    Andy

Every blade I put in my Rappy 30 needed no spacers at all...

They are a pair per blade to space the blades out if the grips are wider than the blade roots are thick.

Sounds like you don't need them. Forcing a pair in is def not right.

Bolts are tightened to give a blade tightness that you need someone to teach you about. Important.

      Best of luck

Thanks guys. Confirmed my suspicions, but thought I'd better ask

As a general rule blades should be tightened to a point where when the heli is held, either pointing nose up or on its side with the blades swung out... Give the heli a little shake & the blades should not fall under their own weight.

Start with the blades loose and tighten slightly each time till this is achieved Any tighter and you can get vibrations etc as the blades cant centre properly under centrifugal force when spinning.
          Cheers,
