  • Is it to early to try some inverted hovering?

    Hi Guys,

Just been trying a bit of inverted hovering with Phoenix. I've taken a vid and would like to post it if poss so the real flyers in here can give me their opinion of me trying it on the field.

Gotta admit though that I'm being pretty ballsy out there as it is, and can also report that I'm learning VERY fast because of it. Bashing through little stalling points that I'd normally stick at, as I'm thinking just go for it.

Let me know where I can post. ta
    Cheers

    Jim

Wow, you're catching up with Richie soon!!!

I got 110% on the SIM and then started high on the real one, it is much, much harder than the SIM so be prepared.

One tip I got early on was to alwasys have an escape plan, which was, if hovering nose in (I still can't do tail in) was to push left stick up and pull right stick down, so you are giving negative pitch and pulling the nose up rather than planting it into the ground. A bit of advise that has saved me from many crashes.

      Hi Thomas

Did you still "dumb thumb" it occasionally on the sim when you tried it for real?

I'm fine on the sim inverted but every now and then I still put in the wrong input and, even though I usually save the heli it puts me off trying it for any length of time. It seems no matter how much I practise I still **** it up occasionally.

I've never dumb thumded it for real but I have had to think rather than just reacting before, but more with which way to push the rudder than the pitch.

It does get easier once you get the confidence to bring the model down low enough to see though

I have to think about the rudder too but ocasionally I'll put in the wrong aileron or elevator - usually after a piroette. Pitch seems to be ok. It almost seems worth starting slightly lower down...

If I put in more time on the sim I know things would progress very quickly, but I'm still crashing and I dont wanna have a major ding on the field yet, can't really afford to

Any ideas where I can post some inflight footage though guys? Would love input bassed on what I can or can't do.
            Cheers

btw how do you know the % you're getting in the sim? Not keen on the training as you can't control pitch, or can you?
              Cheers

You can post a movie in your gallery. I'm sure if you PM Stuartn, he'll tell you how to go about it I tried it and with his help it's in my gallery. You can then put a link to it into one of your posts. http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/galler...to=649&cat=529.

Nice flying, love stall turns etc. I'm actually more attracted to high speed flying right now, but you can swallow up the space in a field really quickly. Our field is large, but the bloody power lines are a constant worry
                    Cheers

why not record in Phoenix and post the rec file?
That way all with phoenix can view the rec file

My fear is that I don't take sufficient care obout flying the sim into myself.

The flips are getting lower, but they haven't stopped inverted near the ground yet.

thats exactly the way I've recorded it, in phoenix. Aren't he files to big to post on here though?
                        Cheers

Your flying is way more advanced than mine. Can you do what you're doing in the sim there at the field too?

right now I am suffering from WISPS
                            (Winter Induced Sim Progression Syndrome)

Roll on British summer Time so there as a chance of an hours flying during the good weekday weather!

And no - all I do is circuits, stall turns and backward flips at the field with my trex so far, and only two tanks of stooging about setting up the gyro on my Raptor.
I could do passable aerobatics with planks 20 years ago...

Do what you want, don't let anyone tell you any different. But be realistic. If you are flying a 50 nitro repsect your limits and get all your basics mastered.

This is what I'm currently trying to do most flights:

                              Head height nice and slow:
1 Nice slow piros - this is hard
                              2 Figure of 8s
                              3 Circuits
4 Nose in, right, left, tail and 45 both ways.

                              The fun stuff
1 Stall turns - mine suck balls at the moment
2 Autos - just started doing them love em, but scary
3 Large circuits - again just starting to come together
4 Bombing around doing big lazy 8s
                              5 Nose in contolled decents

The escape route for me is more just pre-thinking what is going to happen BEFORE it actually does. Also I plan every flight to get myself out of the comfort zone, I'm contantly trying to find out where I am "handed" and then do more of that. This can be pretty hard and I often stop some of my flights early to rest.

                              BUT.............................
                              In the T-REX 450:
                              Tick-Tocks
                              Loops
                              Rolls
                              Flips
Crashing it or breaking it in air

There's no right of wrong here. Just enjoy the crack of flying!
