As far as I can remember, BMFA states you need permission to fly on public fields otherwise you are not covered.
Big heli's are weapons in the wrong hands, especially a 90 size heli. Do the responsible thing and join a club, just my 2cents....

Even a 450 can be bloody dangerous if something goes wrong, TBH I get fun just flying my T250 on the local playing field behind my house, its small enough not to go far, and poses very little threat.

Just think of the law suit if you did manage to accidentally hit someone, You seem level headed not to fly Nitros in public spaces which is plan nuts IMHO, you know the score just take care, if you gain an audience I've found you spend more time explaining how it all works then general flying anyway lol.

...but that does not mean you have permission to fly there. I'd check out first and that way you'd save future trouble and not give heli flyers a bad name.

personally I've flown 450s and 500s in local parks for years. However, you need confidence in your abilities and you also need to be extremely vigilant as the public are idiots at best and at worst damn right suicidal. Only try new stuff when nobody is around, if people are present then stick to what you know and are confident flying.
I've flown at flying fields that have public footpaths alongside and through the middle, which in many respects makes them little different to flying at a public park.
If you are going to fly at a park pick one that's out of the way and very quiet with regard to visitors.

The best option is not to fly alone and have one or more spotters making sure both you and the public are aware of any imminent dangers.
I only fly where I have permission in keeping with the insurance.

Basically ..... a lot of common sense.

the so called park i mention has no play area and its pretty big with footpaths on the corners and its a quiet park most of the times. But thanks for all your comments i now have insurance and i will get permission to fly there.

                    This argument has happened before.

I my opinion, you should not fly ANY collective pitch helicopter in a public park, and certainly not without the express permission of the land owner.

I've seen too many wayward RC heli's crash in totally unexpected places (been at the sticks myself on a couple of occasions) to ever consider it an acceptable risk.

Oh, and just because you've belatedly got insurance, don't expect it to pay out if you're being "careless", flying in a unapproved place, with an unapproved machine.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

+1 I think it is just way to dangerous.

I used to fly in the local park when it was quite with my 450, but after somebody came over to ask a few questions I got a little distracted and nearly hit a mum with toddler who just appeared out of nowere.

Now it's just over the club as don't want a injury on my mind when flying ( need all my concentration to be focused)

hi i started a thread which is the safest heli to fly in a park and just got permission to fly in the park.yeahh!!! thought it was gonna be a grumpy old guy park warden not a heli addict!.

he said he used to fly a 40 size and he flys an electric heli but he hasnt flown it for a few months.

he said i could fly on the old basketball court where theres hardly anyone there at first but then he said you can fly pretty much where its safe...just be very careful and keep it on you.
as long as your aware of people around you and stuff. but I wont stop you is what he said and il come over when i see you if im around.

gladestone park guys is so big its got 3 parts and im over the moon i got permission.

Lets be totally specific here, you need the permission of the land owner.

Does the "grumpy old guy park warden" own the park ?, I suspect not, it'll be the local council in all likelihood, if so, it's their permission you need.

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't regard this as 'permission'

'I won't stop you' from a park warden is not the same as permission from the owners.

Sounds like you are doing all you can to fly in a safe location in the park, but you need to go the extra mile and figure out who owns the park then check with them or with the local byelaws.

Does the park have a name? It is often easy to locate relevant rules and bye-laws online if you know what the park is called.

I see now the other posts have been merged that the park does have a name

Is this actually Gladstone Park in Dollis Hill?
