  • Once again: What to get to start with?

Hi guys, first off sorry if my writing is bad, i'm not a native English speaker.

i know this is getting annoying but i two have to ask for advice.
I read through a countless of similar threads but with each i felt
more confused and less sure what to go for:

So like most recent beginners i started with a Coaxial (CX2)
and got really hooked once i got a Blade MSR. I'm well aware
of how hard a CP Heli is to fly but my goal is to do the same
moves outside as i do with the MSR inside. (nothing fancy)

At first i thought; easy enough i'll get a Blade SR (as it's
aimed for beginners like me). But after doing some research i read
more and more that a Blade 400 would be the smarter choice.
(Radio, Belt, Stable etc.) Then after some research about the B 400
it seems the T-Rex 450 is some sort of deluxe version of the two above..

Then again, a lot of those comparison threads tend to evolve into
such an advanced tech-talk that i have to give up on it:
"yeah but then get servo xy and transmitter xyz and replace gyro,
blades and battery and...." "no, rather get servo xx and adjust
curve xy with gyro gain xz and etc..'

i understand that this all matters big time (especially when you advance in skill)
but i can't get most of those parts in Switzerland and i'm a bloody newb!

So with that in mind, what would you recommend for me:
Something "cheap" to crash with - like the Blade SR
Something expensive but more stable - like a T-Rex
Or something in between like the Blade 400?

    Thank you!

welcome howser, your english seems pretty good to me

the sr is supposed to be very easy to fly but i'd imagine after a while you'd want something a bit better,i wouldn't really bother with the blade 400 as you'd end up replacing a lot of the radio gear over time. if i were in your shoes i'd got for a trex 450 pro or sport as its is a very good heli parts will be readily available and it comes with pretty much everything you need apart from transmitter, reciever battery and charger. this will take you from learing right through to anywhere you want to go without the need to buy anything else

My first heli was a MCX ,the second a MSR, and the third a Trex 450 sport super combo kit. I decided on the 450 sport for a few reasons:

      - I wanted to build the helicopter, so that when I crash it, I'll know how to repair it.
      - Parts are easily available and aren't expensive.
      - It's easy to set up.
      - It's relatively easy to fly.

Nowadays I might have bought a Trex 500 instead of the 450 sport as the 500 is a bit more stable and doesn't get affected by the wind so much. My next heli will be a Trex 500 - but I don't think I'll ever sell my 450!

Hi and welcome to the forum, your english is better than most on here particularly mine!
I agree with the above , go for the 450 t-rex.
        All the best STEVE.

Started off with a Blade400, it's a good starter heli and the parts are readily available. I then purchased an MSR for indoor flying.

Later on with the prices of Trex450 Sport and Pro combos coming down in price I ended up getting a Sport. What can I say, to me it seems a more sturdier and stable machine then the Blade400. Plus the parts are in my opinion are stronger than the Blade400. Especially the main shafts and feathering shafts. I tried using some of these parts on my Blade400 and ended up breaking other parts of the heli as they were too strong. I ended up going with Align purely for the parts availability. In the long run I think you'll save money by just taking the plunge and getting a Sport/Pro combo.

In the long run it is the better choice as it's most likely the machine you will end up purchasing if you do progress far enough to perform Sport or 3D style flying.
