Hello I started to learn flying helis a few years ago but lost interest as I was not getting any better.lately a few fella's near me have started flying and it got me interested again so I've just picked up a raptor 30.I have a few questions if you could anwser for me.will I need a remote glow lead for this heli.and will a cordless drill that turns at 550 rpm be fast enough to start it.and what fuel should I use.

    thank you

    Hi There!

Welcome back to the Heli Flying!

You do not need a remote glow adapter, since you can access the glow plug from taking off the canopy, But most users use a Remote glow for ease of acess and removes the hassle of having to take the canopy off. But that said you can run into some issues with the remote glow.. usually after a time the cable will start to wear away and eventually snap.

A cordless drill "should" start the .30

I am using a 9.6v Bush cordless drill that i used on my Raptor 30, and it starts my Vision 50 Competition with a OS .50 Hyper just fine

    Hope this helps

    Regards
    Callum

              Thanks foe the welcome.

Do I need to get a govoner or are they just for advanced pilots.
and what are these stabilisation systems like eg alien command/co-pilot.do they help learning nose in hovering

The governor is a good thing but can wait till later and in the meantime setting
up useable throttle and pitch curves is a good exercise IMHO even if you had a gov.

Once you really start pushing the Raptor 30 you'll probably want more power anyway but you can go a long way in getting all the basic flying skills down before then. I loved my Raptor 30 (well I still have it but have just had to decide to spend my attention on other helis).

I had casually looked into the various stabilzation devices but never tried them and the general advice I always saw was that it's best to just learn all your orientations and be able to get yourself out of trouble rather than relying on a device to do it. Plus, what worried me is the idea that if the device freaks out or isn't calibrated or initialised just right etc.
