does anyone know what the round plastic thing is wrapped around the esc wire for?

Its a ferrite ring ,used to cut interferance to the reciever.

Yep you see them all the time. You'll find them on USB devices such as mice, joysticks etc. We were talking about them at work the other day as there were some on the Daikin AC Units that we were wiring.

oh ok i thought it was a piece of trash wrapped around the wire to shorten it oh well i took it offf and my heli is doing fine....but now that you have mentioned that i will put it back on.thanks
