  • Head speed adjustments

    Hi all.

    I need you’re help.
I’ve set up the swash plate
Managed to figure out the transmitter.
Sussed phoenix (and had great fun)

But for the life of me I can’t figure out where to adjust head speeds.

Where do you check them and how to set them?

I thought it would be the esc I have an align one.

    Thanks in advance

Throttle curve for normal mode or idle up's

Need to know the Tranny for more details.

but throttle curve point 5 would be say 100,4= 75,3=50,2=25,1=0

You can then choose the point you want and up it.

      Check them with a tacho.

There are some good ones where a friend can measure the head speed from the ground while you're flying.

Aletrnative Heath Robinson approach - attach a plane tacho pointing upwards to a screwdriver with an elastic band, poke it in the ground, and then hover over it. Works well.

          Not entirely.

The throttle curve affects the output of the motor at any given stick position, but the speed at which the head spins is dependent on both the output from the motor, and the resistance to rotation from the blades i.e. the pitch.

Pitch and throttle are mutually dependent. If you increase the pitch on the blades while leaving the throttle constant, then the head speed will drop due to increased aerodynamic resistance, and vica versa.

However, there is a simple guide to getting it right.

Set your pitch curves to whatever you want on the bench - probably to whatever it says in the instructions, maybe -5, +5, +10 for example for idle-up 1. Then be confident that the pitch is accurate, and adjust the throttle curves to suit the given pitch range, not the other way around.
